i don't think a police officer can give someone a ticket and post about it on a public forum. to top it off, on the 2nd post about it, he used a government computer which is blatant misuse of gov't property.

He should be able to post it on a public forum( it is after all public information)but on his own time and on his own computer, which he claims he did. Now if he did post it on a goverment computer,or maybe if his remarks got personal, then maybe the chief had the right to fire him.

just as when i was active duty army, there were certain things i wasn't allowed to do because of army regulations that a regular citizen could do, i am almost certain that police officers have regulations about aspects of their jobs that they can't disclose to the public.

that's why you can't give a coot a job with responsibilities.

This thing will eventually just go away. An employee that is fresh off a termination is mad and embarrassed. Inevitably the first words that comes out of that employees mouth is lawsuit related. It's a pride thing. How does a policemen keep a lawyer on retainer? He probably (speculating of course) just went and got a free 30 min consultation and will have to come up with some money now to drag this thing further in the dirt. Why? To save his 28k a year job. Don't see that happening.

You can find out on which computer something came from. he got busted and fired, end of story. One less idiot in law enforcement. We should hire Barney Fife to replace him. Barney would be an intellectual improvement of course.

They'll threaten and/or file suit, and I suspect the town

will settle. I doubt the ex-cop will return to work there: he knows it, his lawyer knows it, the town knows it. Thus, it's about money. Although the cop was wrong, Leftie, I tend to agree with you, as it sounds as if the Chief had somewhat of a lax policy about use of departmental computers for personal reasons. Though the cop was wrong for posting as he did, I'm afraid his lawyer will attempt to make the town leaders and PD look as if the Chief used selective enforcement against the cop. Of course, that doesn't mean you and I have to agree, which I don't...and I'm sure you don't.

I agree. The thing that I most heard at work was he got fired for doing his job,or that he got fired for giving a ticket to a popular coach. Since the officer happens to be a coot fan,I wonder if he would have given a ticket to the old ball coach. Nah,Spurrier would have just given him a ticket(get it) to a Carolina home game.

If this officer did publicly brag about giving Dabo a ticket, that should be enough. It is easy to look the otherway when that type of behavior occurs in the department locker room, but it is totally out of line in a public setting.
Given the protections given to most gov't employees, I suspect this officer must have had some other issues in his personnel file. Otherwise I would think the public bragging would have been a suspension without pay sort of offense.

there. They need more cops to patrol Five Points. He will fit right in working for a mayor that is having his commercial interests foreclosed on.

Why should there be a reason for settlement. I don't think that the city will charge him for the 90 minutes of tax payer computer time. LOL, I don't think he has a case at all. He violated policy, and that is all the reason needed for a clear reason for termination. If he still wants to work in law enforcement some where else. He better swallow his pride and hurt feelings and just walk a way without a big stink. IF he does file suit. A law enforcement agency no where would ever risk hiring him.

With a job like being a Police officer. He should have never bragged and let his personal preference be known on a sports board. It makes all Clemson fans with paws or what ever on their vehicle feel that they may have been targeted by this cop. He was just plain stupid.

..if there are other incidents of a similar nature in the cop's personnel file, wouldn't that be fair game for the defense to use it?
