Run D - gotta cut the big plays

Oct 10, 2013, 11:15 PM

I am certainly over the moon with regards to the D-line, but just a quick debbie downer moment.

Shorthand analysis of the Syracuse game (rushing D):

- give up @ 100 yards in first half (80 on two plays)
- give up @ 225 yards in second half (105 on three plays)
- overall discounting those 5 bigs, we allow around 3.2 yards/carry

Granted the second half was probably somewhat of a relaxed half given the score, but wow - imagine if we can just cut 2 or 3 of those big gainers out. Especially the 50+ yard runs - those kill.

With BC's guy, decent rushing team in FSU, mobile Md quarterback, GaTech's ugly 4ss offense, and Mike Davis in Willy B - we've got several games where that second/third level tackling has got to tighten up.

I don't truly expect any type of threat overall out of BC, but it sure would be a nice game to see better angles out there in the defensive backfield if runs make it past the line/LBs.

PS - Louisville sucks. Worst Thursday night game ever.

haha - indeed.

I'm only worried about ours though :). We did truck Syracuse pretty bad, but lots of people glossing over allowing around 325 yards rushing. Hope it tightens up!

we made them run it, we completely took the pass away.

like our offense does, bc took what we gave them. i like our chances if we can make ANY team be 1-dimensional.

Well ask yourself whose fault it is

Good line play, good corner play. We have been very satisfied with our LB combo of shuey and Anthony. Is it the safeties? Or are they being keep back solely for the pass due to scheme. Idk but I think we will work it out. We have the athletes and coaches.

No doubt, much improved from last year. Hope they do continue angle/tackling drills the rest of the way.

It's hard to shake that feeling from years past - big play killing our momentum. We've got such a great opportunity this year. It sure feels like that's one small piece that is still missing - shutting down those 25+ yard gains.

Hoping for the best!
