Robbie Caldwell out too!?

Dec 6, 2021, 3:25 PM

Anyone in the know?

Hopefully so!***

Like him or not, Coach Caldwell is one of the nicest, classiest guys you could ever meet. He’s been a true ambassador for Clemson Athletics and deserves a lot more credit than some give him.

No one disagrees that we need improvement on the offensive line, but sometimes it’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

when I go in for surgery someday, it won't matter whether the surgeon is any good at surgery, just whether he's one of the nicest, classiest guys you could ever meet.

or auto mechanic. or lawyer. or architect. really, any job in the world. it's important to be both. but you definitely need to be good at your job or find something else to do that you *are* good at.

it is possible to have nice, classy coaches that know how to coach.

True that, I had a boss many years ago who was a class act, outstanding citizen, and a great dad. Unfortunately he was completely incompetent at his job, so much so after a few years of working for him I quit because I couldn’t take it anymore, He was making me look bad

You are only as good as the players you have. Most years we get 4 and 5 star defensive linemen and 3 star offensive linemen. Robbie is a fine coach and his record of success at NC State and Furman show that. Our line will be older, stronger, and better next year.

Caldwell is one of the most respected OL coaches in the business. Not understanding that and simply going along with the T-Net mob is pretty indicative of a low football iq. His 11 seasons were the best in the history of the program from any perspective. And joining the staff in 2011 was a major shot of credibility for Clemson and Swinney after the 2010 season. He should be able to retire without “fans” trash talking him.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Viz, there is a lot of trash here.

thanks for chiming in.

Now I'm not the guy that calls someone a coot

Dec 6, 2021, 4:23 PM [ in reply to Hopefully so!*** ]

because I disagree with someone. But dang...That's a coot statement if I've ever heard one. I tend to remember that this is the coaching staff that won 2 national championships.

SMH..

He’s been set to retire this season since

Dec 6, 2021, 3:27 PM

before the season started.

Blood beOrange is correct. Been planning to retire. No doubt replacement has been identified.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It may be retirement, but I doubt he is out, as in fired

Dec 6, 2021, 3:27 PM

or leaving for another team.

He had planned on retiring at the end of the year.***

I suspect the plan was for him to retire at the end of the season anyway and for Thomas Austin to take over OL duties. Austin was coaching OL at Georgia State when he was hired at Clemson as an analyst. I would assume he only left that position because he was promised the same position here once Caldwell moved on.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure his plan was to retire after this season.***

Anyone in the know?

He is going to move into an administrative role and Thomas Austin will be the new oline coach when he does.

Does anyone know if he planned to retire?***

Yes but that was before he found out he was up for new OC.***

Love Coach Caldwell, he was a hoot when was head coach at Vandy that year. Unique, down to earth good guy. Glad he can retire on his terms.

Seems as though Dabo did his due diligence and conducted an exhaustive search to find the best candidate out there if it’s true Austin is the guy

Based on your usual posts

I’m going to assume you are being sarcastic.

If I’m wrong, I apologize, but if I’m right, how do you criticize the guy for having pre-determined who the right guy is?

Not excited about Thomas Austin.

Hope he proves me wrong.

A few have said through out the year this could be his last year especially with bringing in Thomas Austin.
