That was the D.B. with the last name Kamara. A 3* prospect. This is the 4* R.B. that was never committed to Clemson at any point, but had us pretty high up on his list. We took Dye over him.

Not sure how I feel about this type of transfer. I suppose I'm feeling faithful to the 8 running backs we have that made Clemson their first choice. Would have no problem with a jr. college transfer.

He is more of a Mike Bellamy type speed back. We don't really have one of those on the roster other than maybe Davidson. He would come in as the fastest back on the roster.

We are "that good" at RB? Howard has shown next to zero in his time here. Brooks, rail-thin at 185, has been and will remain a non-factor at RB. That leaves basically Dye, GAllman, and Choice. Let's hope that a least one of them comes through big-time, or we have major problems at RB.

Banking a lot on Dye having full recovery?

Gallman would be the only power back if Dye never fully recovers from his back surgery this season. If I were the coaches I would consider Kamara just as insurance until Choice or others get up to speed. I say "consider" because they have to judge beyond his talent. Could he be a head case?

Howard has yet to prove anything. Brooks lacks BIG PLAY ability. Who knows what to expect with Gallman. Davidson is injury prone.
So sure, a lot of potential...but that's it. So give Kamara a shot.

All star practices/games/camps... I think for versatility and footwork/speed. This guy is well within d alvin cook's top tier as far as RBs are concerned.
He saw what Bama's freshman back did in the latter part of the year and knows he can be a starter or major contributor at most any school not named Alabama, right away. Hence, the desire to transfer.

Kamara did not actually have a chance to turn down Clemson last year.
Dye just happened to pull the trigger first last year while at the BBQ I think. At that point Clemson was done at RB for that year.
Kamara was very interested though. I think he was friends with Jenkins kid who went to TN.

Time to set the record straight!
Jan 17, 2014, 9:39 PM
|
|
Ok for starters yes he would have to sit out a year and that would pretty much make him a 2015 recruit and would come in to fill the hole that DJ Howard would leave.
Next did this kid ever really turn Clemson down? We told him, Derek Green, and Dye that we were only taking 2 RB's in 2013 and they already had one so the first one to commit is the guy we are taking. So we ended up with Dye because of that. This young man was very interested in Clemson during the time we were recruiting him but we filled up and that was that. He never turned Clemson down publicly he just chose to wait on his recruitment and we filled up.
When I was evaluating all the RB prospect last year I personally wanted #1 Derek Green #2 Alvin Kamara and then #3 Dye...
Let me just say something maybe people are not thinking about. This kid was in the ALABAMA PROGRAM. This kid had a whole year to train and get stronger and bigger with the super power of the SEC. I think we would be stupid to pass on this guy because he is essentially going to be a guy we really wanted in 2013 and we would get him in 2015 after training and getting bigger at another school.
I say we open our arms wide and give him a chance (he clearly had character and Alabama lacked it)

Would love to give this kid a chance at Clemson. There are a lot of external factors that come into play when these kids attend their choice university. Whatever is going on with this young man is unknown at this point but it is quite possible he might see something or have been asked to take part in something outside of his ethical framework. Before any of us know the story it is so wrong to just go ahead and judge this young man.

every other team gets just as much props for getting a sniff at Bama's jockstraps in the SEC. When you win that many NCs, then yes, you can be considered a 'super power' of some sorts.

Apparently somebody found the Kryptonite....what did they fall to this year? Bama wasn't playing as strong this year as they have in the past.I don't hold them up as a "superpower" in college football like some (E"SEC"PN) do and I don't swallow their hype.

If we had Bama's record in winning NC's, I suspect you'd consider us a "superpower." It seems only fair to give credit where it is due. And, consider Nick Saban's public demeanor compared to Spurrier's. I'll take Nick and Bama any day of the week. And I'd da#n sure take Kamara.

If he did choose us, we really would have a stable of young RB's then. Dye, Gallman and Choice will already be in place for significant playing time in the near future, throw in Jae'lon Oglesby too. Going to be a full stable of pure talent.

If he comes here I see CJ fuller being a DB (like most of us believe along with the coaches), Jaelon Oglesby becoming a slot wide receiver, Howard leaving, and then Kurt Fleming becoming an H-back or a LB, which leaves Dye, Gallman, Choice, brooks, davidson, and Kamara at RB, after Howard leaves. I think brooks would be better at WR personally, he fumbles a lot and isn't very thick. All of the other guys are powerful. Choice is a bowling ball along with Dye. I'll take this guy any day of the week though. Plus just like other points made he would basically take the load of recruiting a 2015 RB off of our coaches shoulders so they can focus on other big names (Hyatt, Campbell).
