A lot of records that Barbara Kennedy set back in her playing days in the late 70's and early 80's still lives on to this day.I agree though that what Valerie Cagle has done and will most likely continue to do will put her at the top of the chart as far as past Clemson females goes.Found this on Barbara Kennedy from the Greenville News back on July 23,2018,amazing that all this has held up for as long as he has>>>>>Barbara Kennedy still holds school and ACC records for career points (3,113), career rebounds (1,252), career field goals made (1,349) and field goals attempted (2,688). She also scored the first points ever scored in the inaugural NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on March 12, 1982 and she also was a three-time first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and two-time ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player

No doubt Cagle is an impressive woman and athlete, but I have never met her.
However, to be mentioned in the same sentence as the late Barbara Kennedy is quite an honor.
I met Barbara Kennedy when I was at Clemson, as my roommate’s girlfriend was on the basketball team. We used to go to some of the games whenever we weren’t on the soccer field.
Barbara impressed me as not only a great athlete, but a great person as well… extremely nice and brilliant.
No doubt there have been, are, and will be other great women at Clemson like these two.

If you simply have one or two dominant players, you can have a dominant program. Cagel is such an integral part of our early success. I hope we are recruiting the next Valerie Cagle if we want this success to continue!

One or two players can win you some games, especially a pitcher but without a supporting cast, you won't be a dominant team.

You don’t know a #### thing about me. I have been following the softball program since before it was started. I did quite a bit of research on John Rittman and was actually the person on this board informing people that the allegations against him were absolute ######## and that the overwhelming majority of girls that played for him past and present supported him.

As if you know a darn thing about college softball teams and players. You said you only need a couple good players, and what I'm trying to day is you couldn't name two players on any other team but ours. Maybe.
No need to get all bent out of shape.

I did not say you only need a couple of nice players. I said girls softball is rather unique in that one or two dominant players can help you have a dominant program. That is 100% accurate. You can have a team full of above average players, but not have a dominant program. But when you have a player like Valerie Cagle Supported by a bunch of good players you can have a dominant program. Clemson is proof of that you moron! And learn how to read and comprehend and stop pushing your own agenda again because you’re a moron!

Yes. You have to have a supporting cast. But they don’t have to be great players. In girls softball if you have one or two dominant players, you can in fact be a very very good program. Where would we be without Cagle? Nowhere near where we are now. Not even close.
No other team sport comes anywhere close to being as heavily impacted by one player as girls softball.
Girls basketball would probably be next. Because in basketball a couple of great players can carry a team. In softball when you have a player like Cagel that is a weapon in the circle, in the field, and at the plate you have a very special player. We got very lucky getting her. We would not be anywhere near where we are right now without her. Would we still be a very good program? Yes. But we would not be a dominant program.
In a team sport, you always need supporting players. That wasn’t the point. But some of you clowns don’t actually understand sports. And you certainly don’t understand context or nuance much less reading comprehension skills.

Here is hoping that when Valerie finishes her playing days with the Tigers that Clemson won't take 10,15 or 20 years to put her in the schools Hall of Fame. With everything she has done at Clemson she deserves to be inducted no longer than 5 years when she is done and her number 72 jersey retired also.

1000% agree. What she's doing, done, and will do not only for softball, but Clemson in general is un-measurable.

had limitations. This team is different. This is a team of destiny. These players can beat Oklahoma, UCLA, Ok State, or anyone they March out in front of them. John Rittmanhas owned the right to command any salary he asks for. I wish he could coach basketball.
