Brownell final farewell tour or

Does he make Sweet Sixteen and save his job? Long 14 years and Judge Keller® and multiple sympathizers have claimed this is his best team ever. After a decade and a half will Clemson live up to their hype as a great basketball coach?
I hope they are finally right. A squirrel finds a nut analogy should have its day. Here is to the real March Madness and Sweet Sixteen or bust!!!
Go Tigers

My prediction is we make the tournament and possibly reach the sweet 16 (we should). This will give Brad a few more years to #### the bed some more.

I think sweet Sixteen would be great and achievable, but the Clemson adminstration will never have expectations that high in basketball, unless they start demonstrating that as the norm. Coach B makes the field at any level and he probably retires at Clemson with a new contract extension.

There better be some expectations.
Using 40million on basketball facilities that wouldn’t be possible without the revenue Coach Swinney has created. That money could’ve been funneled to football NIL.

I don't think it matters. He keeps losing games he should not lose and we retain him and even give him extensions. But, I think you are right, this year will determine some things.

Squeak into the tourney, get an extension, then suck again for another decade.

being considered when evaluating Brownell's future as Clemson's head coach. If that was the case, he would have been fired years ago.

My impressions are that Neff does not appear inclined to make a change. I think he held off on the extension because of the way we finished but was pleased overall with the season.
To me, it seems like all Neff is looking for is for us to make the Big Dance. I don't even think BB has to get to the Sweet Sixteen to gain an extension. Where it gets interesting is if we under-perform to expectations and finish middle of the pack in the ACC, and barely over 500 for the season. I think that may be the only scenario that might move Neff to a different conclusion.

In my opinion he has underachieved for much of his tenure here. He has been held to a different standard than other coaches and that is somewhat baffling.
That being said I will be rooting for him to prove me wrong.

You know why hes been held to a different standard, right?

Because Clemson knows that he does more with less, and it’s unfair to expect even more than that when we don’t support basketball well. There are significant obstacles to overcome at Clemson when it comes to basketball. Thankfully, Neff is addressing those.

To be fair, last year basketball had $9.4M in revenues and $8.7M in expenses. It’s kind of hard to throw big money at a program generating so little profit but we’ve certainly been doing it lately, which raises expectations.

He’s been paid more in total and more per win than any coach in Clemson basketball history. His first contract was bigger in annual salary and total guaranteed compensation than our current 2 x national championship winning football coach’s first contract. Is that really more with less? He has quite literally done less with more than Dabo. But continue on with the gaslighting while you pretend not to read this.

I thought Brownell should've been fired last season. He wasn't.
That said, he returns the best roster he's ever had. Yes, I'm including the 2017-18 team. This team is better than that one, at least as far as the talent level goes. He's got a bona fide pro in PJ Hall and another potential pro in Chauncey Wiggins.
I think this team could definitely be a second-weekend NCAAT team. As a matter of fact, it ought to be. This team is deep, experienced, and talented.
I do share everyone's concerns about what happens if we do have a great season and extend him. Brownell hasn't really shown the ability to build off of good seasons in the past. However, he has finally started recruiting at a high level more consistently. He's not bringing in lottery picks, but he's getting players in that 75-100 range, and that's where Clemson needs to live in recruiting.
If he doesn't make the tournament, he should and will be fired. If he does make it, he will almost certainly be retained. I do think there's an outcome where if he backs into the tournament as like a 10 seed and loses in the first round of the ACCT and NCAAT that he could conceivably get canned, but this season would appear to be the end of the road for him, put up or shut up, whatever saying you want to use.

Seems spot on. Basketball has always been hard for Clemson to gain relevance. It bothers me though as we see so many teams rise out of nowhere and become consistent or even have a deep run in a tournament. We never have that

which is a significant accomplishment for Clemson basketball.
I really like our lineup. We are athletic, long, and versatile. We have shooters. We can go deep into our bench.
This should be a fun year for those fans who are willing to let themselves enjoy it.
Of course, this assumes that we will be healthy. That hasn’t happened this offseason, so here’s to everyone getting healthy and staying healthy.
