Dad doesn't seem to think very highly of Venables. Wow, just Wow.

Dax Hollifield Clemson has some scholarships it did not have earlier in the recruiting season available for Wednesday due to departures for one reason or another. That prompted the Tigers to make another run at LB Dax Hollifield of Shelby, NC. But, it may be too late. Clemson was Hollifield’s first offer after seeing him in summer camps, but with commitments from linebackers Mike Jones Jr. and Jake Venables, the Tigers moved on, as did Hollifield whose focus became Virginia Tech, Stanford and North Carolina. Clemson defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Brent Venables did visit the school last week. And Hollifield did make a quick trip to Clemson last week, but that was to visit his close friend KJ Henry and others for a birthday party. He arrived around 9:00 PM and left first thing in the morning and did not meet with coaches. And his mother did make a visit to the school Friday for a tour. Yet, his father and basketball coach Aubrey Hollifield remains skeptical about the Tigers’ chances. “I think he likes the things they’ve got there but to tell you the truth I would be very shocked if he went there,” the dad said. “I find it hard to believe anybody could outweigh (Virginia Tech DC) Bud Foster in my opinion. I know Coach Venables is a good coach but he’s not Bud Foster.” Coach Hollifield said Stanford is strongly appealing to his son because of the academics but the distance is a concern. And Foster is a strong sell for Virginia Tech. Those two would appear to be the leaders but he’s still not clear on what his son will do. ‘I don’t know,” he said. “I keep asking him what we are going to do and he says, ‘I really don’t know dad. I’m trying to wade thru it.’ I don’t know.” Dabo Swinney has been on the phone with Dax according to his father. Coach Hollifield said the tentative plan is for his son to make his decision Tuesday and let him know and then announce his choice at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the school.

He was really good. He still is good but the robber coverage he loves doesn't work as well anymore and a lot of the stature was based on not so recent accomplishments.

True he’s not Bud Foster but he’s pretty good when they’re on opposite sidelines.

Dad seems butthurt because CU was honest with his son about scholly availability, instead of stringing him along with false interest. When circumstances changed, we jumped back in. IMHO, I would respect the honesty.

I'd say Jake had a spot while we did not have room for his son. Seems dad thinks more of Foster based on VT having open scholarships and VT had created the buzz that Dax was priority #1 for them. What is dad's opinion on Brent versus the VT LB Coach? From an actual coaching prospective, without the jaded recruiting numbers knock. Is VT's LB Coach better than Venables, too? Ha

I used to think Bud Foster was good until I realized how crappy the ACC was before 2010,
They haven't won a relevant bowl game against a good team (Orange bowl vs Cincy doesn't count)
The only time their defense kinda showed up with the 2009 opener against Bama. They did alright against us defensively in 2011 (first game) but we still waxed them.

He's right, he isn't Bud Foster. BV has national championships and I believe is undefeated against Bud Foster.

Fat Korncoot tried to negatively spin it as much as he could. That man is so jealous of Clemson it keeps him up at night and he spends more time at the buffets and bars.

Yep I believe that, and I believe that when he is with his cootie friends, they talk about how we're not as good as the sports guru's believe we are. After they say something about us, they will take a short break and talk about how much better they are than is thought to be by everyone else. Their opinions about us and them are the only opinions that are correct every single time!!! If you want to really #### them off, just tell them they are wrong with their opinion!!!!

Dunno the actual truth behind the comments about his father’s disdain for BV...don’t know why...
But I would certainly be hesitant if my son was considering a school that offered and then backed off...it’s only nature regardless of how honest Clemson was about the process.
Does go to show you if that you are VERY high on an institution and they offer, cut the sh*t and go ahead and commit. Recruiting has gotten very annoying.

I’ll bet when his dad says “He’s not Bud Foster” he just means

that his son and Foster have formed a strong connection. So BV is a great coach, but he isn’t THIS person.
That would make sense, because there is no way you look at BV against ANY other defensive coordinator and think he falls short. He is the top in the field.

VT finished 13th in total defense this season...
Feb 5, 2018, 9:36 PM
|
|
18th in 2016 and 44th in 2015
By comparison, Clemson was 4th, 8th and 10th respectively.

Do you believe everything you read on the internet or what you hear in the news?
We don't know what Dax's dad actually said or what he really thinks, do we? All we know is what Korncoot said. Do you always believe what Kcoot says?
