Re: So according to Pearman, BT is being pushed by the other two

Just keeping them hungry but at the same time, BT has been lights out in practice but struggled a bit in the scrimmages so I think there is some concern over how "game ready" he will be. I think he had been 19 of 20 in practices but missed 2 in the last scrimmage.
I also think Dabo is trying to stay positive and boost his confidence in the hope he can replicate in the game what he has been consistently doing in practice.

a single return yard as long as they always catch the #### ball! Amari become very reliable after a couple of hiccups early. If Will Swinney has the best hands, then he's the guy for me.

had a punt returner than hasn't muffed at least one or two punts. We don't want somebody back there dropping them left and right, but I'd really like somebody that's at least a threat to return one.

I'm not saying the returner shouldn't even try to return the ball. I'm saying catching the punt is much, much more important to me than the ability to return. If the guy on the team who is least likely to muff a punt is the slowest guy on the team, I would go with him. I think muffed punts are killers to our team because they give the opponent hope.

enjoyed Donnell Woolford, C.J. Spiller and Jacoby Ford return punts. Doubt there will ever be another pair like C.J. and Jacoby.

Our special teams have been a mess compared to our O&D units

If we don’t improve this year I’d like to see Pearman only coach TE’s and bring in someone to be special teams coach exclusively.
Nothing against Pearman, his TEs have been good over the years. Special teams pretty much cost us a national championship against Bama though

This has been talk about many times.
There are a few problems with your suggestion for Pearman.
The first is, which of our other coaches would you like to get rid of in order to make a place for someone to only coach special teams?
The second is, all of our coaches share special teams duties. An article on the front page mentions Tony Elliot being in charge of the kick coverage team. Are we ever sure that Pearman is the guy working with the teams that are the problem?
Finally, 2015 was a lot of games ago. We have since solved the coverage problem with a kicker who can kick it in the end zone. We have also helped the problem of being a target for fakes by using a safer approach on returns where we typically just want to possess the ball and give it to the offense.

We've cleaned up the catastrophic errors but our

overall ST efficiency has still been awful the last few years. We are consistently near the bottom of FBS in both kick and punt returns. We've also been very bad at punting and pretty darn bad at FG kicking recently. I'm not sure whether having good kickers is more about coaching them or recruiting them, but either way we have struggled. We were 11/18 on FGs in 2017 and 12/18 last year despite having Huegel back healthy. That's not good. We haven't averaged more than 40 yards per punt since 2014 and have generally been in the 38-39 range. That's pathetic.

We can’t get a great punter b/c they’ll never get to play much! Our offense keeps them off the field!

Spiers had a terrible game against Bama in the CFP semi, so if we could get a guy who could average at least 40 and boom one when necessary would be a huge improvement. We need to be able to flip the field, and Spiers is way too inconsistent. We're not talking HOF punters, considering who we're able to recruit at other positions, it shouldn't be that hard to find one.

And with the offense Clemson has, just get it back in their hands. Punt and kickoff returns are not vitally important. Coverage is more important, IMHO.

I see this a lot, but it's completely false

It's fun to say that we will never punt but that's not true. We averaged about 4.5 punts per game last year and we punted 8 times at A&M (their punter averaged 51! yards per punt last year). Yardage is yardage in a football game - it doesn't matter whether it comes from special teams or offense, it still counts. If you lose 10 yards every time you exchange punts that can very easily be 40-50 yards over the course of an average game. And that's not even factoring in the net yardage which is probably more heavily skewed against us because we are consistently terrible at returning punts.
I agree that it's important to avoid the disastrous mistakes that can quickly swing in a football game, but the small stuff really adds up over time as well and can make a big difference over the course of a game.

I wish we could have got Frank Beamer to come and coach our Special Teams bc, that man always had some of the best special teams in the country, hands down!!!
