Is red-shirting players really relevant during the era of NIL and the portal. Seems like it doesn't really matter with players having the ability to leave a program whenever they want to.

Players still have a say in it. Why would they want to waste a year by playing minimal meaningless snaps? It could be a money-making year on the back end for them.

Nope. Better play them while we can. Could be gone in a day or week much less 4 years.

SC and a couple of Western schools had guys say they wanted to redshirt that their head coaches immediately cut.

If they get better landing spots, it's not going to hurt them.

If they don't, that's on them.

Life is full of choices. Every one creates a lost opportunity cost.
