Recruiting question

Nov 17, 2015, 5:54 PM

Sorry if this has been discussed already but it looks like we've recently gotten allot of attention by several top recruits. How many spots do we have open for this year's class? And is there a possibility we will run out of openings since this will be a smaller class? thx.

Looks like we'll take about 18-19, including Sammy Davis and Brian Dawkins Jr. Barring major changes, we should finish off with Lawrence, R. Smith, Overton, Simpson, Anchrum, and a DB of some sort. Cade Stewart may be in as a preferred walk-on or grayshirt, which is a coup.

One thing to remember is that Lasamuel Davis and Brian Dawkins Jr count towards the 2016 class. I absolutely believe that we'll go after plenty of top notch talent just as we always have. Plus, there are plenty of those folks remaining on our radar. Dexter Lawrence is certainly one to keep an eye on. The same could be said for linemen John Simpson, Tremayne Anchrum, and Cade Stewart. The most intriguing part of this class will be who we take at the DB spot. Perhaps the best recruit we'll get will be the ones which we get to return to school for another year.

Below is a schedule of potentially when they'll announce.

WR Diondre Overton will announce at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on January 3rd. Be sure to tune in to this game as Tiger commit TJ Chase will participate as well. At this time it appears that Clemson and Tennessee are the leaders for the 6-5 receiver.

One-time Tiger commit LB Rahshaun Smith has visited Oregon, LSU, Clemson, and will attend the Bama vs Auburn game later this month. He'll be in Clemson again on December 12th and recently stated he'd like to announce on January 2nd at the Under Armour Game. He's likely to be a silent verbal as he's on track to graduate early. Tiger fans should really like their chances here.

Clemson is thought to be the leader for 4* OL John Simpson and he's slated to announce on January 9th at the US Army AA Bowl. Tremayne Anchrum, of Powder Springs, GA, is on track to graduate early and a decision could come soon. Nebraska, Colorado, and Clemson are said to be in his top group. The Tigers could also add OL Cade Stewart (6-4 280) of Central, SC.

Another December graduate and early enrollee is star DL Dexter Lawrence of Wake Forest, NC. The stud prospect was in town for the Clemson/FSU game and is scheduled to be at Ohio State this weekend. He's mentioned another visit to Florida and has visited NC State and Alabama. He'll announce on December 14th. Lawrence leads an undefeated Wake Forest High team which blasted Laney High 59-14 in round one of the state playoffs. His brother, 2018 RB Devon Lawrence, had 10 carries for 157 yards and three TDs in the game.

We've all got to be a little stoked to know that elite DB Trayvon Mullen is taking a visit to Clemson. DB Troy Pride of Greer, SC has recently decommitted from VaTech and now has a lead group of Notre Dame and VT. Another DB recruit, Tony Butler, has given a top two of Arizona State and Michigan. Vance high school's Myles Dorn was in town for the FSU game and will graduate early. Clemson, UNC, and NC State are all in the running here. In a recent game against Independence High, Dorn had 12 receptions for 173 yards and a score. His father, Torin Dorn Sr, played for UNC. His brother plays basketball at N.C. State. The Wolfpack like Dorn as a WR while UNC would like to put him at the safety position.

Are we not interested in the DB that is committed to the coots. He visited for the Fla.St. game I believe.

Yes, and its mutual

He was here two weeks ago and REALLY had a good time. PJ Blue is a pretty solid looking prospect and I can only imagine how awesome he'd be with the right coach/scheme. He's about 6'2 210.

Probably our 3rd or 4th backup plan. Mullen-> Osborne -> Pride Jr. -> Dorn/Blue -> Givens

Troy Pride looks to be Notre Dame bound

I'd really be surprised if he recommitted to VaTech. But those two are his top two.

I still have seen nothing to make me believe that Marquill Osborne will decommit from Tenn.
