Reason to watch the Olympics.

There's been a lot of controversy with the Olympics as everyone knows. I don't agree with it but I'm still going to watch. These athletes work hard to get a chance to be there and compete. I think most of them just want to represent their country and stay out of these controversies. If my kid made the Olympics I would want people to be watching. Our country is having a great Olympics and it has really been fun to watch. Last night I was watching a American girl swimmer cry who won the bronze medal. She was so proud and happy to represent this great nation. USA USA USA.

I can't get enough of it. Such inspiring stories. How bout them rowing guys who won bronze for the USA in umpteen years. And it's been other countries too. Girl from st Lucia had a night. First medal ever.
Who knows, the next Simone might be here in Clemson... I don't get the 1.5 percenters that are concentrated on a couple controversial points and refuse to watch.
Great post. Thanks!!! Good stuff!!!

Rumored that when approached about having a rowing team at Clemson, legendary Coach Frank Howard drawled and averred he’d never have a sport at Clemson where “all they do is sit on their ##### and go backards!”

Jane is a worrier. If she doesn't have something to worry about she will find something to worry about. If she can't find something to worry about she will worry about not having anything to worry about.
Change "worry" to "gripe" and it fits. That's just the way some people seem to be.

Greatest athletes in the world. That’s why I watch. Growing up as a swimmer from the ages of 8-24, I understand that sport completely. The swimmers in the Olympics are simply astonishing. ALL of them.
I understand what they are doing, I know that they did it because I watched it, but I can scarcely believe that a human being can do what they do.
I believe I’ll be dead before another woman matches what Katie Ledecky achieved.

Then you know more than anyone, it's one thing to run 1500 meters in the Olympics, quite another to swim 1500 in the time that she does. People throw out the word goat all the time now, but she deserves the title more than any athlete.
I've always believed that swimming is the best overall exercise in the world.

Oh, she’s super human no doubt. I’ve seen plenty of impressive athletic feats in my day, but the most impressive I’ve ever seen first hand are what distance swimmers do. The sprints are exciting, but I’ve always said that the studs in the pool are the distance swimmers. You can have a pool full of world class swimmers and they’ll stand around between sets, gawking and shaking their heads at what the distance group is doing in practice.

I don't know. There's been some amazing stories and triumphs, but right now, Faulkner takes the cake for me. With her story on how she became a rider, her friend giving her the spot to even race... and to have that much left in the tank to sprint like she did. And that's after peddling in essence from Columbia to Clemson in 3+ hours is unbelievable endurance.

I WOULD be surprised. 7 months before the 2021 Olympics, 23 Chinese Athletes tested positive for banned substances, including half of the swim team. Not one of those athletes missed anything. Some of those swimmers won gold. It was covered up by the Chinese doping agency. What a joke, the cheaters have a doping agency. WADA knew of all this and did absolutely nothing. Having liars and cowards in charge of anything always ends in disaster. The only question is, how long until the disaster?
So the cheaters cheat and the cops are corrupt and the rest of the world is supposed to be polite and not embarrass the cheaters with truth.

I am also a Christian.
You are misinformed about the mockery of the Last Supper. Despite the attempts to “cover it up” by claiming it was the Feast of Dionysus is transparently laughable. It was a contrived controversy and a purposeful insult to the Christian religion. However, my faith is not in religion. My faith is in a Person, Jesus Christ. This sinful world will continue to mock Christians because of the underlying and often blatant evil in this world. But, it will be judged, sooner rather than later.
And, while Jesus will welcome sinners to His table, it has to be on His terms. He loves them and wants them to repent of their sinfulness, turn to Him in faith that He redeemed them from sin by His substitutionary death on a cross, was dead and buried in a tomb, and was physically resurrected to life.
Faithful Christians will be persecuted. We will deal with it. We will continue to call out injustice. We will point out sin that has been defined by God the Father as sin. We will be merciful to those who seek forgiveness because we have been given mercy and forgiveness. We will not be perfect and sin because we are still humans. But, we are saved by grace through faith. There is nothing we can do to earn it.
John 16:33 records these words of Jesus Christ concerning the way the world will treat Christians, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!” John 16:33 BSB

That's your right, I suppose. I just don't understand why you would want to be offended and feel personally attacked.
There is a lot of evidence which goes against the idea that it was intended to mock The Last Supper. To start, the spokesperson for the Paris 2024 Olympics said that this was never the intent. In addition, the ceremony's artistic director stated that this was never his intention.
So we have the two people most involved in the opening ceremony telling us that it was never their intention.
The scene clearly resembles Jan van Bijlert's "The Feast of the Gods" painting much more than it resembles Da Vinci's "The Last Supper." There were more than 12 disciples present in the opening ceremony, more consistent with Bijlert's painting. And of course, Jesus wasn't a blue guy, but Dionysus has been portrayed that way. In addition, the elaborate costumes and dancing were clearly not meant to resemble The Last Supper.
The whole point was to pay homage to ancient Greece, where the Olympics originate. I don't think they counted on people somehow turning this into some parody of The Last Supper. It seems that they underestimated the degree to which people will try to be offended.
As a Christian, I am reminded of James 1:19-20, which says, "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to take offense, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires."

I know he doesn't compete for the US, but if you didn't see what DuPlantis did in the men's pole vault today you have GOT to watch the replay. What a historic moment, and the energy in that stadium was electric. Also, the comradery and the genuine friendship between the pole vaulters was really cool to see. He's good friends with the American, Sam Kendricks, who got second. Kendrick's from Oxford, Mississippi, and to me, seeing a Southern guy representing the US in track like that on such a big stage was really special because most of those guys tend to come from the Pacific coast or the Midwest. If you're not a fan of track & field after seeing that, I don't know what to tell ya. Can't offer you much better than that.
