Real information about conference realignment.

Aug 1, 2023, 7:26 PM

I just watched an hour long live interview with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for FSU. I'll put a link at the bottom if you want to watch it. Here is a brief synopsis.

1. He didn't drop any bombshells. He didn't say when or where FSU was going to end up.

2. He made it very clear that the current situation is not acceptable. He made it very clear that FSU was working extremely hard to remedy the financial deficit ACC schools are in. He also made it very clear that "unequal revenue distribution" would not even come close to fixing the deficit.

3. He also made it very clear that FSU "has a good understanding" of the GOR. When asked to explain what that meant he said the the GOR was not a major obstacle and would not be the deciding factor in whatever decision FSU made.

4. He said that FSU started working the day that UCLA and USC announced they were heading to B1G. "It ruined my July 4th vacation. I spent the whole time on the phone for the entire vacation."

5. He said that geography would be considered but made it very clear that the the decision would be a financial decision.

There was no doubt in my mind that he has been talking with his peers at other ACC schools. Talked about this isn't just an FSU problem but a problem for the entire conference. He also convinced me that FSU will not be in the ACC through 2036. He gave no timeline, but I got the impression FSU would be leaving sooner rather than later (not tomorrow, not next week, but not 10 years from now either).

A lot of people listening to the interview were posting he was implying that FSU would be heading to B1G. I'm not that certain. To me he made it very clear that FSU was going where it made the most financial sense. There is no doubt in my mind that FSU, Clemson and probably several other schools will be leaving the ACC.

Personally, I will be shocked if the move is not made before the 2026 season and I will be surprised if it isn't made before the 2025 season.
