Some people are never happy. When he didn't use the portal, they raged. When he did use the portal, they raged (too late, why did it take so long, yada yada yada).
Miserable people these Dabo haters are.

Please explain how some portal kids would have made us elite.
Jan 9, 2025, 6:36 PM
[ in reply to There are no such people. ] |
|
And which players would you have cut to make room for them?
I can only see one - we needed more than an elite QB during the DJ years. Having an elite QB makes EVERYONE and EVERYTHING better on offense. Defense was the strength of our program, but we had mediocre QB play.
There haven’t been any other positions of need where we needed to bench someone for another guy who wasn’t getting playing time at his previous stop.
The portal isn’t moving the needle for programs. If you’re elite it wasn’t because of the portal (unless you’re talking a QB like Dillion Gabriel), and if you’re good or great it hasn’t made anyone better or elite.
The portal is fine when you have holes in your roster. He has previously signed emergency QBs from the portal. Dabo wanted a couple OL and missed. We needed immediate help at DE and we got it. And we replaced some WRs with a guy who will likely see immediate time in the rotation.
The portal isn’t some magic potion that immediately moves the needle. That’s a myth.

Here’s the deal, objectively speaking: some expressed “rage” over Dabo not using the portal. Some “raged” over Dabo hiring Streeter, Goodwin, and some that are still on staff. I am one. I dare not say their names because people that are pro-anything-Dabo-does-no-matter-what will “rage” back at us about not knowing anything about football, etc.
So how do you think they are going to react? On here, I mean. They’ve listened to that Dabo has never made a bad decision crowd blast them for years about Streeter (they were right), Goodwin (they were right), and about the portal. So of course they are gonna double down against those of you that have bashed them for years.
Some of us noticed a serious decline happening in 19-20. Heck, after TL’s sophomore season some of us said Streeter couldn’t develop a QB.
So I say all that to say this: some of you simply can’t accept reality, so you will double down as well against those that appear to have been onto something years ago.
Note: I am not a coach. I know zero compared to Dabo. I think Dabo does what he thinks is right….for people. I think he hoped it would translate to the field. It did for him personally, so it’s possible for sure. I guess some of us are risk averse and didn’t want him to hire unprovens when we were in the position we were in.
Another note: I thought the Dabo hire was stupid in 08. I was wrong. But I’m ok with being wrong. That’s one of two ways to learn something. So yeah, go ahead and say that some are just never happy. Or, realize that possibly, just maybe, sometimes you are wrong as well

I am no fan of Bluffton. He’s a one trick pony. Maybe two tricks. His first one is “look at court cases” anytime anything remotely close to nil is brought up. It’s kind of annoying. We get it already. I’m a capitalist, and he is right. But, I detest what it’s done to cfb. There has to be a workaround.
But generalizing those that use the words “objectivity” and “objectively” is a tad presumptive. I used it above.
The problem is both sides can not, for the life of them, admit any wrong or falsehoods. Truly objective thinkers don’t operate that way.
Go ahead, blast me. That will show your absence of said objectivity.

A Congressional antitrust exemption.
NIL - very doubtful there's a workaround. People have the right to make as much money as someone else is ready to pay.
That's especially true if the NIL clause in the House case gets dismissed on judicial review, as it may well be. Ditto if the injunction in the Tennessee case takes precedence iver a settlement in another federal court.

I’m sure I’m wrong, didn’t research it. So I’ll rephrase: anytime the subject is brought up, you’re very very close to the first in line to comment. Further, I never look at who is commenting until MAYBE after I’ve read the comment. Yours are (on these subjects) virtually the same. That’s all I’m saying really. Idk if you think it’s your job or mission, but you’re persistent.
I just don’t see how people have the time to do such things. Seems really boring to me. Compared to other things. But that’s just me. I’m a workaholic for one. For two: there are so many more fascinating subjects to enlighten myself on. Instead of trying to bend others. To each their own I guess.

When you choose to suggest workarounds to address the NIL / portal mismanagement by the NCAA, then your posts are interesting.
When you descend into bash8ng the way that Dabo chooses to manage the portal and NIL, you are substituting your judgement as a rank amateur and portraying yourself as some sort of savant.
The first category of your posts are cerebral and engaging.
This second category of your posts are emotional and insufferable.

Objectivity is a lot like happiness. Some are objective nearly never. Some nearly all the time. But because we are emotional creatures, it’s virtually impossible to be objective always.
But one can pursue it, get better at it, and BE objective on many subjects

It's just angry housewives who look back at a man's history and remind him when he should have listened to her and let her direct his path and make decisions.
It's partly hindsight flavored with the potential tragedy which might have come had he adhered to her advise. Who knows where Clemson would be in Dabo had hired a lot of portal players?
One season of heavy portal transfers has an opportunity cost. Young players are ignored. That leads to more portal players and year after year the portal becomes the goto.
I wasn't an econ major but I understand what long term economics means when it's applied to personnel and retaining players and employees who are not seeking employment elsewhere.
Those crying about lack of portal players would ruin a good football program if things were done to suit them.

The best young guys aren't ignored. Neither are the best portal guys. Every team has the right to get the best guys they can from whichever source...as well as the junior college guys that now get extra eligibility.
Your claim about ruining a good football program isn't accurate. Now I'll wait to hear about the FSU Appeal to Outliers.

He didn’t say the program would be ruined because of portal players. I’d bet his point is that they aren’t versed enough to maintain one.
The same could be said of those that say “the portal is garbage. We shouldn’t use it at all”
