A 205 lb long snapper?! No wonder our special teams line routinely gets blown up.

Most of our long snappers have been small. Which is the norm. They are protected and can’t be hit until one full second after the snap.

Losing him wasn’t dodging a bullet. The long snapper is one of the most integral parts of special teams. Like Dabo always says “when you never hear the long snappers name, that’s a good thing! It means he’s doing his job well!” This kid was rated as a five star and #12 overall

A 5-star and #12 long snapper. Not overall, and not a 5-star by typical measures.

It's difficult to find a long snapper who is NOT rated a 5 star by some obscure service-

Doesn’t really concern me, but this situation seems strange to me. I saw where he was going to be a preferred walk on at FSU that’s means no scholarship while he was going to be on scholarship at Clemson. So, I am not sure why you would want to pay your own way to school when another team is willing to give you a scholarship. Just weird. By the way I am not in favor of using a scholarship on a long snapper.

If he left an announced scholarship offer for a walk on spot, could it be that he no longer had a scholarship offer?

He is getting in-state scholarship money to cover in-state tuition (similar to our SC lottery scholarships).

None of that will matter if the court settlement is approved. The roster will be max size 105 regardless of how many athletic scholarships are offered.

Clemson offered him an opportunity to join the roster in January. He would have had to pay his tuition for fall semester and no access to practice with the team until January. In Florida he’s eligible for an in-state academic scholarship due to HS grades. FSU provided less financial stress and a path to begin training in August. It was a no brainer. Swinney could have provided a scholarship and roster spot if he was willing to cut loose one more current walkon (which he has to do for about 15 walkons in August anyhow). I think you take a topped ranked long snapper when the opportunity exists. He’d put on 25lbs easy and be our future quality long snapper. Unfortunate set of circumstances with this roster limit business forcing out walkons. Swinney chose to not prioritize the kid, so that’s how things worked out.

Seems like the phrase "5-star long snapper" should be an oxymoron?

If we don’t have to punt, we will not need a long snapper!
