Let’s all see

What a season will be like with a QB we can ALL rally around! For a couple of year we haven’t had that luxury. That has been a very big negative for the Clemson Tigers.

We had Boyd. We had Watson. We had Lawrence. We had DJ.
See where this is going? 2023 will be a fun year.

When I see him running out into the huddle, I just get that feeling that some defensive guys are about to get lit up.

Well since I live in Charleston,

Jan 10, 2023, 12:28 PM

I have to travel to ride anything good. When Clemson plays away, I'll come up to Issaquena, and when they are home; maybe DuPont or Pisgah. Should be less travelling overall than going to most of the games. I'll still watch, but at night when I can skip the commercials and drink beer.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you ever try that Palmetto trail?

Jan 10, 2023, 1:14 PM

i jumped on that thing in Bonneau one time and only made it like a a half mile. They say it is a biking trail but no way. It is so badly maintained that i was carrying my bike as much as i was riding it.

I agree, Dupont and Pisgah are great but bit of a hike from Greenville so i dont go there much.. even further from Clemson.

Issaquena is was one of my least favorite trails in the Clemson experimental Forest. Hunting Arrow was my favorite.

If you don't want to go all the way to NC... Pleasant ridge is a good little 5 mile'ish loop. It is becoming as bad as PAris mountain now though so it is a bit crowded on weekends.

Croft State near Spartanburg is a good one also and a bit longer. Far less packed as well.

Jan 10, 2023, 1:42 PM

No, I've never ridden Palmetto, but I think of that more of a hiker, horse rider kind of trail. The best single-track down here is actually on the Navy Base in Goose Creek. It has about 20 mi of really well done single-track.

I have ridden many of the trails around Clemson, but I just Issaquena for that whole area as I do not know all the names of the trails.

My parents moved out of military housing in middle school over to Burnt MIlls Rd. At the time there were acres and acres of undeveloped woods right in my back yard we could ride our bikes

we use to dare each other to jump the fence across North Rhett extension to see if any 1 was brave enough to jump into the old missle base. No1 ever did.

Double digit wins in the regular season with a win over u of sc and no games where it seems like the team is totally unprepared. Only guaranteed 12 games a year, so let’s try to enjoy them. The playoffs would be icing on the cake, but that’ll be tough with Georgia basically a lock, and 3 of Alabama, Florida State/LSU winner, Texas, USC, Washington/Oregon, Ohio State/Michigan/Penn State based on what they have returning. Although undefeated definitely gets Clemson in and 1 loss ACC champion should have a good shot.

Dabo and the football team can have goals that go sequentially (ACC division, state championship, AAC title, Playoffs, etc.).

Why can't fans go the other way? You'd really put State Championship over the NC? We've been there, no reason that shouldn't be our #1 goal. Doesn't mean that the season is a failure if we don't get there to the ultimate goal.

I put state championship first because I hate South Carolina. I would love another national championship but I think that is unrealistic at the moment.

Well do you base your expectations on the standards

2

Jan 10, 2023, 12:41 PM

that Dabo set from 2015-2020 or on what's more reasonable for next season given where we are right now with this current roster and staff?

I don't believe realistic expectations for 2023 should include the CFP. It's not that we don't have a shot at making it, but i can't say I'm expecting it.

I'll take a stab at what i think is realistic and would get us (hopefully) heading back in the right direction.

-Beat USC
-Beat at least one of FSU/ND
-Finish at least 10-2 overall in the regular season
-Make the ACCCG
-Win the ACCCG unless FSU suddenly becomes a playoff team next year
-Win the bowl game
-Get recruiting back on track

Re: What will be considered a successful season for Clemson in 2023?

Jan 10, 2023, 1:37 PM

I know this doesn't necessarily answer the question, but I think our success next year hangs on the coaching...starting now and until the last game and of course staying healthy. Dabo and the staff need to do some soul searching kind of like in Rocky III; need to find that eye of the tiger this offseason and get that chip back. If watching that National Championship game and the way we ended in 2022 doesn't do it, then I'm not sure what will. We have the starters at each position to be a playoff contender (barring health) and having FSU, UNC, & ND at home next year will help - the Valley should be rocking for all of those. I see our team getting back to business against USC next year. Again, all of this is contingent upon our coaches taking this stuff personally and doing whatever it takes to get better this offseason.

PS: Screw Stetson Bennett and Kirby Smart. Both are successful dooshbags.

Well, Dabo says that we should be grateful for 10 win seasons

1

Jan 10, 2023, 2:33 PM

and an opportunity to play for an ACC championship.

I’d like to say that making the playoffs should be our goal, but it’s not one of the five team goals listed every year so I probably shouldn’t expect that either.

After all, we’ve had coaches like Tommy West who couldn’t get us anywhere close to a 10 win season so I should probably be thrilled with where Dabo currently has us.

Jan 10, 2023, 2:54 PM

Judge,

I think that once the 12 team CFP is instituted, winning the ACC with 10 wins should get us into the CFP most years. Then the level of satisfaction becomes determined by how well we play in the CFP. If we play up to our potential, but lose to one of the top 10 teams in the nation, then I think I will be OK with it.

Re: What will be considered a successful season for Clemson in 2023?

Jan 10, 2023, 2:50 PM

1. I would like to see us play closer top our potential - good-quality competitive football maximizing our talents.

2. I would like to see us at least at 10 - 2

3. Win the ACC which I think will be challenging.

4. Get into the CFP or at least being in with a chance through the end of the season.

5. Finish in the Top Ten

Going forward, it seems pretty obvious that in order to get into the CFP, we have to win the ACC and beat USC.
