Transfer portal

I don't post much just read to get a feel for what oeople think. IPTAY member 50+ years. My Dad played for Frank Howard so I've watched Clemson Football since I was 6.
Think what you will but we have entered into the Era of semi-pro football. Go look at Miamis' roster, 33 transfers. Scroll to the right in their web page it shows where the transferred from.
The point I make is a 20 year old with 2 years if college football training, weight room etc, is going to manhandled even very good 18 year old freshman. We have some high-school studs in our defensive line and they got manhandled last night.
Another point about transfers. Previously a lot if very good high school players couldn't qualify academicly to get into power 5 schools. I'm suspicious that thise kids can transfer in now at a lot of schools.
My bottom line is build on very good high school kids whose parents know they won't be replaced by a transfer with 2 or 3 years experience training particularly in the weight room.
In my opinion you will never be able to compete at the highest level without transfers. The best players will not sit at 2nd team when they can get $ recruited by another school abd start.

There is so much impassioned support on TNet for Dabo’s stance on the portal. Interestingly, when (yes when) Dabo does start competing in the portal against our opponents, those same folks will offer their impassioned support of that.

Agree. When the NIL and portal crap kicked in I began losing interest. Gone are the days where I scheduled my Saturdays around when Clemson was playing. Gone are the days when I could name every recruit we were chasing. Gone are the days when I would get butterflies watching a close game. Money, as is usually the case in everything, has ruined college football. You are 💯 correct. It's semi-pro now and I don't follow pro ball because of all the self righteous drama queen athletes at that level. So goes college football in my opinion. Money will buy athletes and it becomes ALL ABOUT WHO GETS PAID. Loyalty to the program and school from the athlete is dead. Therefore the fan base has no team to root for because you never know who's going to stay on your team or leave your team.

I can sympathize with Dabo for avoiding the inevitable. If he doesn't do it, this fan is disgruntled about our ability to be an elite program. If he does do it, this fan is disgruntled about giving in to the machine.

Oh well.....guess I get more time and energy to focus on deer hunting in the fall now.

Go Tigers.

Well said. I understand Dabo wanting to bring in top high school prospects and train them up to be solid college football players. I support that. Parents can be sold on Dabo will not bring in a transfer that has been in another program and supplant your kid as a starter. However a freshman cannot stand up and handle a man that's been training for a couple of years. It's men against boys.
Top programs will fill in with transfers. Like Miami that has 33 transfers.

The problem is that they don’t have the deep talent pool that fans seem to think. The best players have been turning pro early, leaving them with holes to fill. Plus the recruiting classes have been average lately. Not using the portal to fill those holes mans not sense. Major programs are now cherry picking the top talent from the mid-majors like it’s a second recruiting class, while Clemson is choosing to opt-out completely.
