the top. There's only way to go and that's down. Strangely, sometimes from a criticism and expectations standpoint you're better at being consistently mediocre at your job. If people have never really seen you succeed it doesn't stand out when you have another so-so season.

NIL and Portal both are ruining college football... because in most cases it works in that order... how much money to come to your school... It's a business transaction...

After watching this team for 2 games I compare it Crawl, walk sprint. We have to remember that this is a new coordinator that is his second game and he is 7 in total offense. I just believe the players are not as confident in the plays as they speak about, but this team will be a force to be reckon with sooner rather than later. I believe if this next game shows the continuing improvement on the second half of the last game we will beat the Noles the next week.

I watched FSU vs. LSU.
I watched Clemson vs. Duke.
If that FSU and Clemson team show up to play each other, it will be a Jameis type beatdown in the Valley.
FSU is full of dogs with passion and intensity. Our team is full of country club members who go through the motions. Where is this teams Skalski or Boulware? I saw more intensity out of the freshman last weekend than I did any starters. The only one who comes close is Shipley. He needs to be the leader and hold his teammates accountable. Let loose young man and expect more from your fellow players and coaches.

Yeah if THAT Clemson team showed up but there will be 2 games between that Clemson team & the one playing FSU. Also, am I crazy or did 2 or 3 fluke fumbles hand the game to Duke??? I don’t understand this narrative of how bad Clemson is. Clemson is very good, just need to polish up some mistakes.

I’m genuinely confused by this. Our defense is stout, if it weren’t for the offense giving points away to Duke & CSU we would be sitting here talking about how good the D is. Goo actually look at how they have held up. Also outside of the fluke turnovers, where is Clemson truly lacking? I’m so confused by this lack of faith by fans like you. Sadly, that's how I see this FSU matchup playing out. It's not the "country club guys" but it is a lack of passion, energy, motor, and just plain "will to win" mentality we are missing, from the first team anyway. The second and third teams played with much more passion and energy last weekend and didn't give up a thing.

I had to laugh when I read Coach Swinney's comment to wait until the end of the decade to see how things are. It is easy to have patience when you are being paid an obscene amount of money to be head coach. I cannot imagine Clemson fans being that passive if the downward slide continues.
The more the talking heads describe Clemson as on the way down, the more likely it will be that we end up there. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy, because when you are ignoring the portal and loving whatever group you have (as Coach just said and has said many times before), the most sought after recruits will not want to buy a ticket on Clemson's Titanic.
The outcome this season will tell the tale.

Well rumor has it the players love the loyalty of Dabo Swinney so not sure if this has much truth to it.
Who do you recommend Dabo sends packing?
Sometimes you just miss on some recruits and that in a nutshell is where we are. I’m sure Dabo would not hire coordinators that he would feel would tank his career, but between coaching hires, the portal and his Christianity some seem to have all the reasons figured out.

Their longest run from scrimmage is a 25 yard run by their QB. Their offensive line is a mere shell of its former self. Their QB is extremely inaccurate completing only 60% of his passes. He completed a mere 14 passes against Texas. Their defense was letting receivers run free. They got worn down with a lack of depth in the 4th quarter. Not sure how he concluded that Texas was elite after 2 games.
What position group is Alabama better at than Clemson? None.

"Klatt added that he’s “in on Clemson” this year.
They should be better on defense, Klatt said. They won the ACC a year ago. They’ve got their best games or toughest games at home, a place that they rarely if ever lose over the course of the last five and six years. I’m in. Like, I’m in on Clemson.”

I disagree with Klatt's assessment. Yes we hit a bump in the road and have not had a top 5 recruiting class lately but all this means is we may not be ACC champs and in the playoffs "this year". Media folks can count Clemson out if they want to. It only gives incentive. I believe it was Mark Twain, after he had been reported diseased in the papers, said something like this in a speech: " The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated".

2019 - blown out in national title
2020 - blown out in the semis
2021 - 3 losses, cheez it bowl winners
2022 - 3 losses, ACC Champs, blown out in Orange bowl by a team missing their 3 biggest offensive playmakers
2023 - blown out by Duke in game 1

Yes, but that’s a pretty narrow data set. If you’re looking from 2016-18 (1st,3rd,1st) and going by final ranking then of course it’s downward. You can’t trend up from first. You’re fighting gravity at that point. But if you take a decades view we ‘re two seasons in with an average rank of 14. We averaged 17th from 2011-2012. (I’m pulling mcubed numbers). We we won 21 games in both instances. College football is normally cyclical. On paper Alabama should always win - even now in era of Kirby Smart. But experience is never weighted in the Rivals/ESPN/247 rankings. Covid has thrown the normal 4-5 year cycle into disarray. We have 7th and 8th year players now. It’s still 2 more full seasons away from working itself out. Our run as a top 4 team for 6 full seasons is a minor miracle - not some standard than should be expected in perpetuity. In any window greater that pulls back further than Dabo’s tenure - this program continues to sit at a previously unimaginable plateau. We have an active 12 season streak of 10 win seasons. We have fans dismissing that like it’s nothing. It’s the 3rd longest in college football history. Only Alabama and Clemson even have active 10 win seasons streaks of 3 years. Only Ohio State and Georgia can even make a claim about the covid year. Our home win streak that was broken last year is the 9th longest all time. These are no small or meaningless stats. They demonstrate the extreme elevation of this program. If you plot Clemson wins in the Dabo Swinney era against those of the other 132 FBS football teams you are not going to see a team that is trending downward. Your going to see Clemson occupying rarified air with Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia while others come and go.

Bama will be in that second tier b/c of the NIL marketing and push being harnessed by the big market teams. Its just economics at this point. IF you're in a larger market with a huge alumni base you're sitting pretty right now and just biding your time. The miami's, Ohio States, USC's, TExas's are all on the way back to mainstay prominence. And will nab alot of the elite players that Clemson and Bama used to get by hard work and recruiting well.

There is enough bulletin board material written about this Clemson team and Clemson program to motivate this group for a long time.
Hopefully our Tigers play a clean game against FAU and take another step forward. Then, let's hope this team can rise up and beat FSU and turn college football on its head.
Beat FSU and the season is back on track with all the remaining goals still in play.
Beat FSU and these morons in the media will honestly have nothing to say and many of them will look stupid.
Not going to be easy as FSU is going to roll into Death Valley confident. However, play a clean game, force them into some mistakes, and go win it.

With the AD. I mean he isn't on the verge of being fired but he needs to understand his old way of doing it is not working in the current era and he is going to have to start to embrace it. And maybe start hiring people who are actually worth their pay and not just people who caught a touchdown back in 98 and they make some boomer fans happy

Klatt has almost no insight in his comments. Klatt ignores the fact that the game could have been won comfortably absent the turnovers. Credit to Duke as they are actually a good team, which Klatt also ignores. The first game is normally the most mistake filled. Clemson proved that. Texas was never an elite team even through last year. Well coached teams get better as the season progresses. We will see.

So this boarders close to being a stoopid hot take. However, his stated reasoning was that “Clemson lost and looked like crap against Duke” and Alabama lost and didn’t look like total crap against a Texas team that is approaching elite status.
So for a national pundit - that reasoning is better than most.

Did anyone watch the first half of the Charleston Southern game? This is a 6A or 7A high school team with a paltry 63 scholarships. A Clemson team from 5 years ago would have dropped 50 points on the Bucs the first half and then coasted. Instead we got to watch CSU D lineman penetrate the Clemson O line for multiple sacks and pressures. Mind boggling that nobody mentions this when trying to talk trajectory. This is a team with more issues than previous years and as usual does have a handful of next level players. If posters can't see the trajectory then they need to take binoculars to the games or watch some replays and do an honest assessment of what is transpiring IMO.
