Part of me says this will be an abysmal failure.

Part of me applauds the outside-the-box thinking.

I would only watch games at my house, a friend's house, or in person. At my house, I dictate the behavior. At a friend's house who pulls for Clemson, I expect the same. In person, I have learned to accept fan behavior for what it is. But a theater seems like a strange way to watch with no moderating presence. I'll pass.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I expect object failure here.

1

Aug 29, 2023, 2:10 PM

Hard pass.

Correction: abject.

I like the out of box thinking, but don't see this being a big success. Back when only 2-3 games were on TV this would have been successful, but not sure now. I am willing to give it a try though. Not necessarily a Clemson game, but maybe a game like FSU/LSU.

This will be a colossal failure. Most of the schools can’t even fill their stadiums and viewership data says they don’t watch on tv either. Why in the F would those same people now leave their house and pay more money to watch it in a theater.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Welp...ESecPN done fixed it!!! Calford, SMU, CW network and

2

Aug 29, 2023, 2:18 PM

theatrical ACC FB games...$$$$ just gonna flow in.

ESecPN might be about to "jump the shark".

All of the networks just need to go to an on-demand pay-to-view for individual events and games. I don't want to drive to a mall to sit in a movie theater to watch a football game.

This is the sort of out-dated thing we did in 1968 to see UCLA basketball and Lew Alcindor before he was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Cassius Clay before he was Mohammed Ali.

I would much rather sit at home in front of my big-screen and enter a credit card number for a few bucks to see something on a one-time basis. They could charge for every individual game and make a bunch of money.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Interesting, I wonder what the charge will be to see them

2

Aug 29, 2023, 2:34 PM

play on the big screen.

To me this actually sounds ok but theatre popcorn is no substitute for buffalo chicken dip at home.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Beer is about $.87 each in my garage

2

Aug 29, 2023, 2:40 PM

and no one bothers me in there.

Can you imagine the trolls that would go to theatres purely to talk $hi1t?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good luck with that.

2

Aug 29, 2023, 2:43 PM

I can't tell you the last time I went to a movie theater.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Does it generate more $$$ for us?

1

Aug 29, 2023, 3:02 PM

If not, who cares?

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No thanks. I'd much rather watch at a sports bar or at home.

1

Aug 29, 2023, 3:04 PM

It costs money for tickets.
No adult beverages.
If you stand up, the people behind you will likely complain.
The audience is likely to be 50-50 with at least a few trouble-makers.
You have to sit and watch commercials.

Brilliant idea!

Gotta do something w/all those empty movie heaters, right?

2

Aug 29, 2023, 3:25 PM

I can remember watching big games televised on closed circuit tv in Littlejohn way back in the day, and it was a great experience.

But, that was in an era when the games weren’t available at home and TV screens tipped out at 25 inches anyway.

Today, with big screen home theaters, and multiple sports bars the concept of paying to sit in a theater for a game seems a bit of a stretch.

Probably not something to take the family to. With alcohol involved and rival groups, there’s a good chance for mayhem.

Of my home, I get to pay to go to a theater and sit among rif raf like deadsolidperfect and the like. The question should not be what does it cost, but how much will they pay me to go.
If this makes money, I'll be shocked. It's one thing to go to the stadium and see what looks like a casting call for the first movie about January 6th, but go to a movie theater and watch an away game. Yep, I'll be there right after I leave the tigernet tailgate/cookout.
LOL.

I don't want to watch a ball game in a Theater eating Pop Corn and M&M's. I want Butt on the Smoker and Woodford Reserve.

I can only think of one instance where I’ve seen this scenario almost work. It was Superbowl Monday morning at a small US Naval base in Japan. That’s when the Superbowl happens locally when you’re on the other side of the planet. They put the game on in the base theater for everyone.

I say it almost worked because service member wives brought their kids in there to view the game and they were some kind of ticked off when Janet had a wardrobe malfunction on the big screen.

Is this part of what the "Alliance" is bringing to the table to add value to Clemson? What's next? Free refreshments while having our games shown at timeshare property and sitting through a sales pitch?

THIS. CONFERENCE. SUCKS.

This is probably in response to the writers strike and the fact that there won’t be any movies in theaters…used to be pretty cool to see games in LJ but my Tv will work just fine for me.

This is ridiculous. Can you imagine the fights inside a theater with fans. If I’m not in the Valley for the game I’m at the house 1st, 2nd is at another friend’s house and 3rd would be at a bar. The last place I would want to watch a game is in a theater
