What cannot be questioned is the great effort the Tigers gave today. In the game of 60 minutes plus 2 possessions, there was never a play that our guys did not give their all. Is FSU worthy of an ACC Championship, too early to tell. Are we out of the running for an ACC Championship, too early to tell but we have to go the Syracuse, play well and win. Don't give up, our players and coaches will not and maybe the next field goal will be good.

Time for pablum comments and poor coaching decisions is over. At least 2 of the team goals for this season are done. ACC Championship and playoff is now done. We play for 10 win season and self respect now. This will depend on the coaches really learning lessons from this game. I personally don’t think Dabo can. A season lost.

There is something wrong when the HC is making 11 mil a year and he hires position coaches for base pay, and coordinators for half price, and they are happy to get that bc they know they would have never gotten that chance no where in another D-1 FB program, NO WHERE!!!

10 win season? That involves winning eight out of nine. Ain’t happening this year. All we need to do is beat the Coots and get ready for next year.

We also lost the opener so all we have left is to win the state championship and the closer. The way this season is heading is the state championship may be the closer so we may be able to kill two birds with one stone. D*** this is frustrating.

Agree….
Mr Hood, you sure are a “glass-half full” guy.
Two really good teams where the game comes down to a couple of plays and we lost. It happens.
Still, I’ll take EVERYONE of our guys over those guns for hire FSU chooses to use. No way to build a culture and they will be a flash in the pan. No loyalty to your recruits. You watch.

no more national relevance. No more talk of playing for a Conference Championship, no more talk of playing for a National Championship. Heck, it may be a struggle to get 6 wins and hope against hope to make maybe the Myrtle Beach Bowl if any bowl at all. So far the Tigers have not been able to beat a seasoned opposition QB. It maybe another loss to the "dirtpeckers again since they have a seasoned QB. The old way of recruiting for players is over, the NIL is the new way and the NIL will continue to win. Might as well forget about moving to another conference, better stay where you are and not try to compete with the Big Boys moving forward. The defense played better today so far, the offense had spurts but still found a way shoot itself in the foot. We don't need to talk about the 2 and 1 play in overtime that did nothing. If you are not moving forward then you are standing still. Wouldn't you think a forward pass still means forward. Vertical is the only way to be relevant in your passing game. No great college football lasts forever. Glad to have been able to see Clemson with past success. Been a great run. There is still a lot of season left but reality is starting to settle in.

Just a joke. That was awful. Didn’t attack the middle….the qb switched to a pass when he should have had his hand under the center’s ### to get the first down on a check-with-me sneak and our defensive coordinator looks like he should be selling burgers @ Big Boy/Shoney’s before he ever calls another defensive signal.

So y’all come @ me and tell me I’m wrong…or Germans or whatever.

I played the game. Not at Clemson but was a scholarship qb in college.

This football team has some problems. They are Uber-talented, have poor coaching and are scared of success.

One missed assignment, and one stupid play call.

That was the difference.

Mafah missed the blitz pickup on the fumble/TD return.

Throwing a screen to a WR on 3rd and inches?

This team played hard the whole game, outgained the Seminoles, and made big plays against a top 5 team.

We knew, or most of us knew, this was not a playoff caliber team to start with.

I'm not sure that an ACC Championship is not still attainable. We don't control our own destiny, but can control every game going forward.

I'm encouraged by all the new faces that are making plays, guys stepping up.

I have total faith that this team will continue to grow & improve.

Kinda nice to have this level of expectations, thanks to Dabo's leadership

Go Tigers

I hate the loss as much as anyone else. I admit I am spoiled by the past decade of success Dabo has brought us. But,if 8 years ago I had been given the choice of going 7 and 1 against Florida State, I would have taken it in a skinny minute.

With the exception of the end of the first half, I thought pork chop called a pretty good game. It was the offensive coaches at the end of the fourth quarter that absolutely botched our red zone opportunity. It was mind-boggling. We would’ve had a better chance if we were just ran it up the middle three times, it was embarrassing and unfair to the kicker. Also poor clock management and play selection. Where is bringstool in the red zone? You’re getting Stellato open on slants, that also works inside the 20. I’m not really sure what’s wrong with these coaches. It’s starting to look like Venables was the heart and soul the team that won the national championships.

Hello there, Will Muschamp fan boy.

Our defense played well and the defensive calls were good. Get over your love for tough looking guys just because they look tough.

We did attack the middle … some. CK2 hasn’t learned how to move well enough in the pocket and he hasn’t learned the over the middle route timing to throw a slightly softer / higher trajectory (I.e., very slight arc) to hit over the middle routes. He either throws too late, or his low trajectory passes get tipped by D linemen. Therefore, the offense play calling shifts to the outside.

(Note that Jordan Travis … no faster than Klubnik … doesn’t get his over the middle passes knocked down. Travis has learned those facets of QB play that Klubnik has not yet learned.)

As for the under center QB sneaks on short yardage, I agree with you completely. It’s as if G.Riley is auditioning for his next job by showing off with fancy (stupid) plays when boring plays would accomplish the team’s goal. G.Riley has been a disappointment thus far.

Well written. Conservative coaching decisions at every juncture. Special Teams. Offense. Defense. It works when Clemson personnel is dominant. It does not work when personnel is equivalent. Tough loss.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Exactly

Sep 23, 2023, 7:43 PM

We chose to not be conservative at the wrong times. On the second and very short in Q4, we needed for CK2 to be under center for QB sneak, with Ennis and Mafah behind him to push him to a first down. Instead we got fancy with a lateral pass (G.Riley showing off?) and lost 2 yards. At that point, QB under-center sneak was no longer the smart option.

No rest for the weary. Going to an undefeated, very motivated Syracuse for a noon game will be very challenging. Dabo is really going to have to earn his money on this one.

Sep 23, 2023, 7:47 PM

Syracuse will be tough for the very reasons which you have detailed.

Their QB is a proven player who can make the tough throws and is a much more effective runner than our QB: G.Schrader does not go down easily, whereas our guy isn’t the tackle breaking type.

The team is not trending in the wrong direction. They looked better and made fewer mistakes than in the past few games. 1 TO from a busted pass pro pickup. Less drops. Less penalties. Less just dumb mistakes. I will admit that the conservative play calling was weak af on the last drive

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Upside down: Tigers trending in the wrong direction after mistakes doom in loss to FSU

Sep 23, 2023, 7:53 PM

Our long drive from mid-Q4 to late-Q4 was excellent; we had a chip shot FG to likely win the game. By this time, we Clemson fans have to recognize that our QB is not quite ready to take all of the hairpin turns at 90 miles per hour. The correct strategy is for CK2 to not be asked to make fancy plays; just keep the car on the road and don’t make the game killing mistakes. Klubnik did this.

(I don’t blame Klubnik for the fumble on that sack which led to the FSU scoop and score. One of our star skill players wasn’t covering his primary job of blitz pickup.)

Re: TNET: Upside down: Tigers trending in the wrong direction after mistakes doom in loss to FSU

Sep 23, 2023, 6:50 PM

31 years ago FSU missed a field goal wide right to Miami and they still talk about it today. Why can’t we get one decent kicker to make a field goal. He wasn’t pressured to make this chip shot. He just blew it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Upside down: Tigers trending in the wrong direction after mistakes doom in loss to FSU

Sep 23, 2023, 8:02 PM

We’ve had exceptional good fortune with regard to FG kickers for decades. This has led us Clemson fans to feel entitled to a permanent gimme at PK.

2023 season is where we come back to earth. We’ll see if Gunn has acquired the skill to hit his PKs clean and straight next year.

Who knows? Maybe Gunn will get some shots at FG later in the season if we happen to beat another team soundly before season end. Maybe Weitz will get his rhythm back after a few more practices and a few more games.

Until kicking woes get fixed, we will be losing games to teams like Syracuse and NC State. Wake Forest might be our last easy win of the year.

Dabo doesn’t want to change in a major way. The philosophy is let’s keep doing the same thing with minor changes and expect the same result of greatness. The most stubborn coach in the league right now is Mr. Swinney. Keep the same mindset and keep failing. I hope you realize that change is not a bad thing. You built this program but dude you have to adapt!!! Stop hiring within and go hire coaches with more experience!!!
