Barrett Carter's comment suprised me...

2

Sep 6, 2023, 6:09 PM

When asked about what they can do better, he named several things but also said "I gotta get in better shape". He also talked about game shape being different. Is this team not training and practicing hard enough?

At this point in his career if he doesn’t know what it takes to get in game shape then he must have that amnesia Ruke was hoping to catch. Or something we don’t know about has been limiting him which is much more likely.

They can sure talk a mean game, including the coaches. Sure didn’t show up in real time. Too much money spent on salaries and facilities for that kind of performance. Duke wanted that game a lot more, from start to finish. The Tigers, as a whole, didn’t handle adversity very well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some of that is rules changes regarding what coaches can

Sep 6, 2023, 6:28 PM

do in practice. Back in the Days of Danny, being in better game shape than the opposition was our calling card. His former players recall the brutality of some of those practices as being legendary.

And to a man, they loved Danny, and still do.

Heat stroke and prostration injuries caused the NCAA to limit practices in regards to conditioning in hot weather. So, like Carter said, the individuals will have to take it upon themselves if they find themselves sucking wind during games.

Along with the everyone gets a trophy crowd pushing to get practices limited. This whole country is spiraling into the marshmallow of softness.

I think we collectively (coaches, players, fans) were all overconfident and looking down the road at fsu. Some players were probably looking all the way down the road to NFL draft based on their “press clippings”.

Either way, can’t win more than one game this week.

There is NOT enough of a microscope on this comment. Batson has been an issue the entirety of Dabos tenure. Its ridiculous the S&C program looks like a HS program when you watch the "hype" videos. I always cringe watching football players doing 1/4 squats and deadlifts.

Quarter squat, maybe a lil deeper but not even parallel def not atg. Been watching these closely for years. The S&C has been left behind.

That’s some serious training back in Tebow’s day.

2

Sep 6, 2023, 7:20 PM

Alabama’s practices were more physically demanding than their games. I would imagine that to be true under Saban.

They may lose a a game here or there; but they ain’t getting beat down by Duke.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Voluntary (non-official) hot day exercise is answer (?)

Sep 6, 2023, 8:55 PM

I suspect that we have not figured out how to get players acclimated during summer practice for very hot temperatures.

Hasn’t the NCAA (or maybe just the ACC) implemented a rule that practices cannot be held if the practice field temperature exceeds 88 degrees? Clemson would practice indoors in this case, but that would render the players as being poorly prepared to perform at their best when the actual game day is in 90+ degree temperatures.

The only remedy that I can see is for ‘team leaders’ to set informal expectations for each teammate to work out extensively on his own during the hot time of the day in order to become acclimated to the heat.

How this ‘hot exercise’ can be scheduled during the season (Clemson players actually go to class; this isn’t Bama, UGA or S.Carolina) is the mystery. Other than the Sunday following a game … and that day just happening to be hot … when would the players find time for this voluntary workout?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was caught off guard with that comment.

I’m not sure what it means…

Re: Barrett Carter's comment suprised me...

Sep 6, 2023, 8:29 PM

Well at least he is owning it...cause thats exactly the way he and trotter looked...heavy legged, heavy feet, slow and lethargic...problem is it will take weeks ahead to get into game shape if you even really try and hard to inagine that can happen over the course of game weeks when it didnt happen over the course of a minth in August heat and fall camp!!!

But again...thats exavtky the way we looked, especially those two!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Other teams, even Duke look

Sep 6, 2023, 8:37 PM

More ripped than we do. In the second half a lineman, offensive I think, stomach was showing in the sideline. It looked like pure white dough. It was not a big lineman bull belly. Just looked soft and like less than high school. Maybe he was a walking or something. He was kn the sideline.
As for Carter, that was a stunning statement. Someone really needs to ask him to clarify that. Cant believe the reporter dodnt ask.

Re: Barrett Carter's comment suprised me...

If you’ve ever played a team sport, were fortunate to be a contributor to that team, and then played poorly, you would better understand why Barrett Carter made that public statement:

It is a public promise, and also a promise to himself, to get better by working harder.

B.Carter plays a ton of snaps every game, including on Monday. Monday was hot. It is my understanding (please correct me if I’m mistaken on this) that the NCAA does not allow for practices to take place when temperatures exceed 88 degrees. While this helps to reduce hypothermia among the players during practice, it impairs them from performing optimally when game day temperatures are in the 90+ degree range.

I am interpreting B.Carter’s statement as being that he will take ‘private time’ practice … during hot weather … to better acclimate his body to playing on game day when the temperature is high.

(*). At least he didn’t blame it on the coaches for playing him too much, or because the D-Line didn’t set up easy tackles by getting the ball carrier off balance before he closed in for the honorary kill hit.

Carter handled that interview like a boss. Honestly hes impressive might not have been his best game but hes a great representative of Clemson.
