When I was a wee lad current president Richard Nixon showed up at the Texas-Arkansas game in Fayetteville. It was #1 vs #2 and Nixon’s arrival was a huge distraction.
We came back and won the game, 15-14, and Nixon came into the locker room and named us national champions. Little Joe Paterno got super angry and of course he was a liberal and he hated Nixon then and thereafter.
But, instead of settling it on the field in Dallas in the Cotton Bowl, he took his team to Miami. We came back and beat Notre Dame in the Cotton after The Irish went to their first bowl game in 50 years.
Freddie Stenmark was our safety who played the entire 1969 season with a cancer and his one leg had a bone that was eaten away and not even connected any longer. I can’t imagine what pain that guy endured that season. He played against Arkansas in the last game of the year and two days later they removed his leg. He showed up with one leg in the Cotton Bowl and watched the entire game on the sidelines with a smile. He was 160 pounds dripping wet, but he had the heart of a lion.
All that to say that Trump will be a circus like distraction. I’m in New Zealand and I likely miss the entire game. But, I’m pulling for ya.

I keep hearing about the escort and traffic. That’s just silly. There is always traffic around a game so it’s to be expected. He’s arriving as a guest of and with our Governor so there would be that escort either way. People just like to gripe.
