Tailgating TV Service

Sep 13, 2023, 3:32 PM

Hey guys, this will be my first time tailgating at a game using youtube tv (as opposed to Directv). For those that have done this before, is the signal usually strong enough for this around the stadium (assuming you use your phone as a hotspot)? Any recommendations?

Yes, I haven't had trouble the last few years once connecting to the "guest wifi" if you are close to classroom buildings/stadium. It's a lot better than it used to be.

Just curious how people are doing this...

Are people using a Smart TV with YoutubeTV already installed?

or

Are people streaming direct from their phone via mirroring onto the TV from their phone?

or

Are people using an Apple TV that's then hooked up to the TV?

Any people using youtube TV at tailgates care the share how their set up works?

I connect a 11.9 inch iPad pro to my phone's wifi Hotspot that way I don't have to worry about plugging anything in to a power outlet. If I were to use a TV I would probably use a firestick.

I use a smart tv with my android phone. I bring up Youtubetv on my phone and use smartview to cast it to the tv. I've never had an issue. This can also be done with an iphone.

Are you using any wifi, or straight phone service?

We've used it only as a backup in case satellite screws up..

either mirror phone w/ youtubeTV app OR get the HDMI adapter for phone plugin and wire connect to TV.

Haven't had any issues when we've gone that route, but haven't used much either b/c we have DISH.

If you have Verizon you will be watching someone else’s TV…FYI

That said, I know one person that does the streaming thing. He insists that the best way to go is get a phone-to-hdmi adapter or “cast” to the TV. Using the phone as a hotspot hasn’t worked well for him.

I use smart tv w/ YouTube tv app and use phone as hotspot. Used to have pixelation from time to time but was mostly clear the last year - few if any issues

In my experience...

using your phone as a hotspot is not the best option if you are relying a signal from somewhere around campus.

If you have an internet gateway at home (from Verizon or T-Mobile for example), bring it and use that. Although it will buffer at times as the crowd gets bigger.

The most reliable option is still a satellite and a generator.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Just use the hotspot in your Ford F150 Lighting.
