Spring Game standout?

Jan 26, 2015, 12:45 AM

Anyone care to comment on who they think the biggest standout of the spring game will be? Other than the obvious of course...DW "standing out" on the sidelines

Will Charone Peak ever get back full strength? Hopefully he'll have a good spring to give him some momentum heading into fall camp.

I think he will, yeah. Even if he doesn't, there's lots behind him. DW is gonna help Peake out a lot Bc he can throw the deep ball with touch, see the Georgia game where he dropped a dime in to Peake

I agree. That was a fearless pass. Would like to see the local boy succeed, but it's really fun watching our young guns too.

Will definitely be one of the frosh QB's, and my choice will be KB. A lot of people are talking TI up, and while I think he will be a great backup, I think KB is more equipped athletically to run this offense. Not sure why so many people doubt his passing ability either...go back and check his highlights. He hasn't developed a cannon of an arm yet, but his short and intermediate throws are sharp and fairly accurate. Nonetheless they both will have an opportunity to showcase their talents and my guess is KB will surprise many.

I would really like Nick Schuessler have a great spring

Jan 26, 2015, 8:46 AM

We need him to. We can't rely on true freshman to back up DW. Im sure they will be could players but the QB position is one of the hardest positions to come in and play right away. I hate to say it but i kinda wish Chad Kelly learned how to keep his mouth shut and was still on the team just for depth reasons. Anyone think we might pursue a QB transfer?

I'm hoping for the same. To be frank...in the limited time I've seen him play and practice, he looked like crap. He also looked very...tentative, like he wasn't getting much in the way of reps or attention.

I love Deshaun Watson, but I think it was fairly obvious to everyone that he was The Chad's Chosen One - understandably - but if there was a weak point in The Chad's body of work, it was QB development. With the exception of Watson - who came in already a very polished product - his guys did not show particularly good fundamentals (which bit Tajh Boyd when it came to the NFL), and The Chad seemed fine with the two-read concept: bomb it, or if it ain't there, pull it down and take off with it. His guys really did not go through the kind of progressions or show the kind of field awareness you'd like to see...which, as has been pointed out, might have been a function of the fact that he was doing double duty as both an OC and a QB coach and he just didn't have enough attention to go around, especially to the backup QB's. Hopefully having Streeter as a dedicated QB coach will help with that. Early returns off what we saw from the Oklahoma game are definitely promising....

Be very nice if Schuessler can make a case for himself as a legit #2, and allow us to keep the redshirt on both freshman QB's. If anybody can get a modestly-talented QB to function effectively in a spread, though, Lord knows it's Streeter, who did a pretty durn credible job being effective before Woody Dantzler took over....

Best Is The Standard

Young stable of RB's, including Zac Brooks

And the new faces on the defensive line. With our secondary, I find it hard to believe our available QB's will have success in the air. Let all the young guys tote the rock.

Ebo,Carlos Watkins, and Travis Blanks

Should be interesting with a QB that's never played

Jan 26, 2015, 9:22 AM

a meaningful snap getting 1st team reps going up against a defense that's replacing half the starters including most of the DL 2-deep. If it were a competitive game i think you could expect to see a steady dose of the running game from the offense, but they will probably want to practice everything in a scrimmage.

I think Tucker Israel, one of the young guys on the oline, and one of the young guys on the dline. I think we're going to see a lot of DW to Cain on the deep ball
