Serious question about Beamer and Coot football

future. I begin by saying that, looking at their schedule, USux will have it difficult to be bowl eligible next year. That would make it two years in a row without going to a bowl. Assuming this happens, what will be their reaction? Hear me out and let me know whether you agree or not. 50% of the fan base will want to “Fire Beamer.” The other half will agree to “give him another year.” I’m not trying to be a jerk or appear to wearing Orange tinted glasses, but I do not think even Nick Saben could ever get their fans and alumni to where their upstate big brothers are annually. The irony is how proud all SEC fans use being a member of their conference as being “We’re Number One.” Better chant would be “We are in the same conference with Alabama and Georgia.”

Okay. Back to USux. You created your problem. Adding Texas and Oklahoma will only make you back a step, or two.

We’ve kept Brownell 14 years. I think the coots ought to give little Beamer at least ten years to turn the corner. They deserve it.

By the way, they’re back to just saying “We’re in the same conference as Alabama” again.

Please define “success”. It means very different things to different people.

If the question is really serious, folks will know it without you saying it.

I enjoy the coot suckage but a coach needs several years to right a ship which has been sinking for most of a century.

Agree and in the case of usuc, they have gone through coaches faster than xlax goes through crap. And all that buyout money has bought them nothing that has changed their losing program.

Thus, I would give Beamer 10 years and let him use the portal like like your mistress uses your credit card.

At the end of the five years of darkness, some coot members of my wife's family were ragging on me pretty bad. One in particular asked me if we had any other coach than Dabo, would we be content with him losing five in a row to our rival. Since then, the records of both speak for themselves.

I don't care whether they keep or fire Beamer. Felt the same about Muschamp and will probably feel the same about their next coach.

They are very lucky that the portal started when it did. They have not recruited well or been that good at player development. If it wasn't for Rattler, they would be behind Vandy. the fans will be calling for Beavers head next year along with Tanners. But unless they go completely off the rails next year(1 or 2 wins) he will get another year.

They will never have any lasting success, no matter who is coaching.
And as long as they stay in the SEC, the program is going to be awful.
May as well keep Beamer.

I find your comment interesting for a couple of reasons.

First you say they will never be successful in the SEC but they were never successful prior to being admitted to the SEC. Now they have more resources to use to build a program and a name brand conference affiliation to use in recruiting yet they can’t get over the hump.

So why can’t they find sustainable success?

I would also point out our basketball program has a similar history as coot football nut many of our fans think success for our basketball program is hiring a different coach. This sentiment is shared by coot football fans.

Coots don’t care, they get drunk and show up at the games. They see what happens, and they go home, if they keep losing more than they win, then they start talking about a new coach, but have no idea who. Most clueless fan base on the planet.

Not all of us.

But yes, a significant portion is already ready to excuse a losing season next year because of those 8 days.

They knew Shane Beamer was going to have some growing pains.

They hoped he could be a charismatic coach like Dabo AND that his father's connections would help him hire top assistants to run things while he learned to be a head coach.

His assistant hires have not been great and the recruiting hasn't been great either so this really feels like a failed experiment.

I'm guessing next hire they go back to has been coaches like they usually do.

Actually their recruiting has been pretty decent, at least in the middle of the SEC. But the middle of the SEC isn't going to get very far and playing teams like us, and even UNC, NC State, or others in the top half of the ACC isn't going to get them over the hump. Frankly, I don't see how they ever get over it.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can make any "long term" projections about any program. Coaches don't really know what they have for the next ball game this year! Some teams aren't sure who their next coach will be. So, recruits come in, coaches get hired and then the portal opens back up in the spring. Hopefully by August coaches (old and new) know at the very least, they're beginning team. and the whole thing starts over in December.

The time frame on a coach used to be around the 4 year mark. At least time to recruit your team and build around it. What's that time frame now? Seems now it's measured months not years.
