Scouting Syracuse

Oct 20, 2022, 4:55 PM

In determining what type of team might be making its way to the Valley from somewhere way up north, I have watched a few condensed games of theirs. There seems to be several reoccurring themes with the jingling keys.

1.) Gadsden II is their "alpha" receiver and they seem to do their best to scheme him open/attack mismatches.

2.) Schrader is not afraid to stick in the pocket and take hits in an effort to deliver a ball downfield. He also seems to have issues with throwing interceptions when not under pressure (See NC State game).

3.) The defense is extremely undersized, though it seems to have a decent amount of speed and incorporates flashy stems and blitzes to help negate some of their shortcomings. The aggressiveness and lack of size also makes them extremely vulnerable to the inside run game.

4.) Tucker is an All-American type back, who has a good eye for finding creases and taking full advantage of them. He will make the defense pay if they can not fill running lanes.

With all this said; however, I do not believe by a long shot that they are anything to be extremely fearful of. Clemsons defense front "should" have a field day against the Syracuse offensive line. Also, after seeing Nate Wiggins own FSUs green giant, I do not believe that Gadsden will find many favorable mismatches. I look forward to watching the defense terrorize Schrader in the backfield and feed off the energy from the homecoming crowd. I also have reason to believe that the Shipley/Mafah two-headed monster will find plenty of running room this Saturday.

Final Score Prediction: Clemson 42 SU-17

Your 3rd point …
I strongly concur….
We need to run Shipley and Mafah often…

I’d actually like to see some 2 back sets like we ran at the latter part of last year….

Last year it was out of necessity because of short comings in the passing game….

Our passing game is much improved this year though - and successful running should open up nice options for DJU…

Good review. The key to slowing down any pass rush is to make quick throws and that is what we will see. For whatever reason, we have a historical issue with swing and quick passes so we have to play fast. I totally agree on our running game and success will set up a deep throw or 2. Turnovers, as always, will be key.

Historical issue with swing and quick passes??

Unbelievably moronic comment. Congerts.

What is the over/under...

Oct 20, 2022, 7:02 PM

on how many times the refs will stand idly by and watch blatant and obvious holding by the Cuse OL on Clemson defenders and not call it? I'm going with 12.

Because I agree with this point more than anything else above I predict a 16-14 win with the formerly orange men missing a field goal with 6 seconds left. Whew!

I hope it doesn't come down to a field goal because the Orange kicker, Szymt, is one of the top 2 kickers in the country.

It’s a 69 yard FG attempt though

Depends on how many plays Syracuse runs.

I posted a similar breakdown earlier in the week

Oct 20, 2022, 8:43 PM

All will be well as long as the refs don’t allow the orange to hold our D like they have all season.

If Clemson doesn't beat Clemson the Orange won't get a win. Clemson in my opinion should win this game by 14 pts or more.

Less than that; we helped them!

I can scout Syracuse for you. They’re…Syracuse.

Not a real team. Easy win.
