Moving our daughter into Douthit! The drive away is going to be brutal.

Lol, my parents were probably saying as they drove away:

"All RIGHT, only one more to go now!"

we had a 3 hour drive when we dropped our only off years ago. Dinner took forever as no one wanted to say goodbye. We sat there alone in our thoughts driving back. Had a message at home when we got back of her bright and cheerful. She had already gone out with friends so all was well. She got her education , a great husband, and 3 beautiful kids as time went on.

I feel you. We are moving our only child in tomorrow. Knowing that she will enjoy her Clemson experience seems to be the only positive. The wife has been on edge for weeks now.

She will be fine. we

have an only son who attended undergrad and grad school at Clemson. He was raised in NY but never came home after living it up in such a great place! He is now well established in Charleston and we are now in northern Florida where we can visit often. She will have a great experience - no doubt.

with both of my girls. I don't know what it's like at your house but, for me, it doesn't get any easier no matter how old they get.

Certainly not an easy day but is the next step. I am sure you raised her well so after the initial shock, it can be a fun time on the home front.

After we moved our daughter into the dorm at COC and left late in the day, which had been brutal as all moves are, Broomhilda and I were driving back to GA, and all was very solemn. I looked over at her and said, "You do realize she'll probably never live at home again, don't you?" Broom said, "what do you mean?" I said that she probably would meet a guy, or get a job in a different city, or both, and she would never move back to our little world. Torrential flood of tears, followed by, "I just wish you didn't say that." It was so true. The little chicks leave the nest, and it's all bittersweet, at first, but it does get better. Make the most of the next years. They are so fun, and so special.

I remember when we first dropped off our son.

The drive home was like a funeral..just brutal.

But my wife soon got over it and didn't even bother to help move him in the next few semesters.

"When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car."

"I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it."

then, it'll be a whirlwind when you open your trunk. Just trust the process, all of it will end up where it's supposed to go as long as it's labeled. It's a little crazy, but just relax.

Go park and get ready to unpack at the room.

We moved our daughter in and there was this box in the middle of the floor. Both of us and her roommate's family kept tripping over it. We all finally realized it was in the wrong room.

Saying a prayer! As a mother myself, I am not sure what I’ll do with myself when my kiddos go to college. I know she is having a flood of emotions.

Happy to do so! Transitioning a child to adulthood is a huge milestone, and a lot of changes ahead. Praying for your family.

Aug 21, 2023, 12:44 PM

...just don't let it get in your head.

Keep thinking about the positives and be thankful that she has such a great opportunity.

She will be fine shortly after you leave. It will take a few days for you and your wife.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Will do!

Aug 21, 2023, 1:13 PM

Congrats to your daughter on becoming a Clemson Tiger!
