Yeah, because we can all trust E$ECPN to do what’s right and fair….

For the love of God, Clemson get out of the ACC!!!

Jul 6, 2022, 8:32 PM

Clemson and whoever wants to join them needs to be the next teams to move ASAP!

The ACC Wait and See/Strike why the Iron is Cold policy will leave football schools in the ACC left for dead.

UNC and Duke can wait and see because their main focus is basketball. The Irish can wait and see because they are who they are and no matter what either conference or NBC will pay them to play even if it's five years from now.

Get out of the ACC now and if the courts say you have to pay, get on a payment plan and pay.

ESPN controls college football in the South and when their lead guys like Herbstreit and Reese Davis are on radio shows almost every day telling you what is about to happen someone may want to listen.

Re: Run Tigers, RUN!!!***

The SEC or B1G would be honored to accept the Tigers and that is saying it mildly. They both would only get better with us in their conference. The only team to complain and protest would be the goofballs in Columbia

SEC!!!

Travel for us and SEC opponents will be much easier compared to PAC12/BIG12, much less so for the Big10. The Big10 would make it virtually impossible for a majority of our fans, which SHOULD make the Big 10 a non-starter

Travel for fans MUST be given Top considerarion! Phillip's "loose associarion" with PAC12 and or BIG12, is as crazy as an outhouse rat!!!

SEC makes much more sense on all fronts.

ACC Commish Jim Phillips is trying to save his job. Swofford’s Long term TV deal was only done
to help his son who is in the TV business. Neither guy cares about Clemson.

Phil Knight flexing. If not for him Oregon and Washington would be gone to the B1G and Clemson / ND would get an invite from SEC. ND wants to sit on the pot cool. Take FSU

Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN

Jul 6, 2022, 8:32 PM

This whole concept is asinine. The best thing that could happen here is that it nullifies the current GOR and all members are asked to sign a new GOR, then Clemson and others refuse to get on board. It’s past time to tell the ACC ??!

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Problem is, if Notre Dame does not

Jul 7, 2022, 12:31 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN ]

Go to BIG, then no more invites for anyone to the BIG or SEC. I agree the ACC PAc deal is a disaster.

Only good thing is if BIG and SEC only have 16 teams each, they will not be able to lock everyone else out of the playoff. No way.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN

Jul 6, 2022, 8:28 PM

The cookies is all about an alliance. At this point Clemson needs to think about going to another conference like the SEC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Terrible

Jul 6, 2022, 8:44 PM

Worst part about this is implication is this is a way to not void GOR. Of course ESPN ( as they should) is looking out for their bottom line and they have a sweet heart contract, from their perspective, until 2036. For ESPN the cost benefit is …. Yeah their football sucks but we getting it on cheap …. So it gives us content, etc.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree, ESPN is trying to structure this to not invalidate

Jul 6, 2022, 10:09 PM

the GOR.

I believe when the ACC signed the new GOR in 2015 or 16 a primary benefit included the objective to create an ACC Network. Now, as I read this new proposal, ESPN is looking to repurpose the ACCN for use with the PAC. I believe the ACC and ESPN split profits from the ACCN, giving the schools a financial interest in the ACCN. Now that interest is potentially being diluted from a cost, and potential profit, perspective for benefit of the PAC, a group and purpose not in the original plans.

I'm not a lawyer, but this proposal seems to me to be divergent to the original interests and plans for the ACCN, which was the primary benefit of signing the new GOR, and provided the justification for the extension of the contract terms to 2036. I would think if this repurposing is implemented (maybe even just simply proposed) provides grounds to invalidate the GOR.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So we're talking about getting into a tv contract alliance

Jul 6, 2022, 8:42 PM

with the conference whose fans follow football the least out of the power 5? And, on top of that, with Los Angeles essentially taken out of the equation?

What am I missing here?

Re: It sounds like we're getting played by ESPN to me.***

Jul 6, 2022, 8:48 PM

100 percent correct. They want more content they can get on the cheap. The ACC contract is great from their perspective….. they don’t want to do anything like giving teams a way out of GOR … that ruin their nice contract that lasts until 2036. What business wants to renegotiate a contract that cost them more money

Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN

Sounds like ACC Network is failing just like the PAC Network so ESPN cutting their loses by combining the two. What an S show of two conferences.

Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN

Jul 6, 2022, 9:10 PM

Hopefully ESPN is banking on this undoing the GOR so they can bring CU and FSU under their SEC exclusive contract.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN

Jul 6, 2022, 9:34 PM

Seems the opposite. Do Clemson and FSU increase per team payout for SEC is the question …and would it bring ESPN more money? Data we don’t have

While we may hate ACC contract I am sure Espn loves it. If it working for their bottom line they know
Letting Clemson and FSU out would kill ACC and espn one sided contract. Clemson and fsu maybe more valuable to them in ACC ….. it’s not what more valuable to us

Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN

Jul 6, 2022, 9:23 PM

I do not see the benefit for the ACC with this. You would need the commitment of a merger to show strength. I wish there was a merger of some of the BIG12, PAC12, and ACC schools and that would strengthen all of the conferences.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Report: Proposed ACC/Pac-12 partnership talking deal with ESPN

Jul 6, 2022, 9:37 PM

Philipps is doing his job to explore options which he can then present to ACC presidents. The schools will decide, not him.

This could be a good option for what remains of the ACC if Clemson, FSU, et al receive offers from the SEC and bolt.

Philipps represents all 15 schools (14 for football). Think about it, If you’re Wake or Pitt wouldn’t you appreciate this type of lifeline to still be in a somewhat major conference if the worst comes to pass and you lose your marquee football programs?

A gutted PAC12 and a hapless ACC doesn't equal anything good. The SEC and BIG10 super conferences would be playing for the title, the guys in the BIG12 and ACC-PAC12 (or whatever they would be called?) would be playing for Division 2 (small ball).

Jul 7, 2022, 4:23 PM

The writing is on the wall, join the SEC or Big10 or be relegated to the "secondary group of conferences" that won't be playing for the top tier Natty. Period.

Take the ACC and join them with the worst P5 conference, Pac12, and you've got a group of mediocre teams that will yield no major TV contracts or games.

It's simple, all of the top teams/contenders will be in the SEC and Big10, and they will likely create their own playoffs...join one of those two conferences or say goodbye to any Nattys moving forward. Not to mention the devastation it'll do to recruiting.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought this was a joke

Jul 7, 2022, 6:35 PM

Clemson needs to make a bold move not a patch-up job and this "loose partnership" is as solid as that stupid "alliance" they formed.

If the ACC really wants to save itself, why in the world would they partner with a conference that nobody sees because of the time their games are shown on TV and, more importantly, a conference that will NOT likely have its two most prominent programs in ucla and usc.

This is a silly idea IMO.
