I know most of you hate the guy, but despite the occasional transgression in the past he really does love South Carolina and promotes every school from South Carolina including Clemson. And his show is actually pretty darn good.
I don’t listen that often, but once a week he has a great segment with a representative from the SCDNR. I happened to catch it this week and they were talking about the opening of dove season.
He also laid into Dawn Staley and the USuC admin RE: BYU. He said they looked like idiots, grossly overreacted, made themselves and the university look very bad and owed people an apology. He also said it was a completely unforced error because it had nothing to do with the University of South Carolina, and Dawn Staley, nor anyone at the University, had any business commenting or getting involved. He said basically it was her injecting herself into politics and issues that she had no business getting involved with.
I also listened Tuesday evening. During football season on Tuesdays he has a segment with Chuck Reedy & Ellis Johnson. They call in and analyze the games from the weekend as well as previewing the upcoming games for in-state programs. Naturally there was a lengthy conversation about DJU and none of it was very good or positive. They both feel by the time the Wake game is over Cade will be the permanent starter at QB. They see a repeat of the Trevor Lawrence/Kelly Bryant saga. But of course they both had positive comments about Dabo and how he is handling it.
I’m sure the DJ lovers will attack the messenger and especially Chuck Reedy and Ellis Johnson, But no one on this board has the coaching knowledge and experience of those two gentlemen. That’s also the opinion of Tom Luginbill who I trust and enjoy listening to greatly. Actually, that’s the consensus of everyone I have heard analyze the situation that I feel is qualified to comment.
Korn is certainly a coot, but he has no problem calling them out and holding them accountable and he especially had some strong opinions about Dawn Staley and Ray Tanner and them getting involved in the BYU controversy.
Again, I know most of you guys hate him, but I think Phil is an OK guy that loves the state of South Carolina and I think he has a pretty #### good show that you would enjoy if you gave him a chance.

Many times, it is a racist that calls out a racist. Such is the case with Dawn Staley.

she JUMPED at the opportunity to be a victim. There are people that hate that racism is not more prevalent, so they do not even wait for facts to come out when anything that could be considered racist comes out. Facts do not matter.

Yes sir, but the worst part of the racism card that's always played, it has always been a one sided card as if it doesn't go both ways. IMO, as long as it's a one sided card, racism can not, and will not ever have a cure, or a way to fix it....

Dawn and Lebron need to get married to each other. Don’t know which one is most racist.

I wish they would put the new show on YouTube so you can watch or listen whenever it’s convenient.

When you look at the dates it’s the older stuff from before he had to create a new show when there was a change in ownership of his flagship station in Columbia. I have not seen any of the newer shows on YouTube.
It’s still South Carolina sports talk is it not?

I can say this and believe it, the USUC fans here in Cootlumbia believe that radio sports show is for them, not for Clemson in any way shape or form!!!

I graduated from Clemson in 1988. I was playing on the hill in the 70s. Was a football camp at Clemson in the 70s. I am a proud alum and member of IPTAY.
I just don’t see the bias on that show. I think Phil does a very good job of being objective. It’s not just him. One of the guys that’s on there is a Clemson guy.
I know Phyllis done a few dumb things in the past. I know he’s a gamecock. But the show is not overtly biased. It’s just not. I think it’s a very good local sports show. They talk about hunting and fishing. NASCAR. High school football. Recruiting. Actually all high school sports. It is a South Carolina sports show. Not just college or a traditional sports show.

I agree with some of what they are saying in this post. University of South Carolina had no business making such an early statement. Its not like they were playing in a week.
My son and I were talking about QB at Clemson and I told him that if a change needs to be made, then Dabo would make it known before NC State. Like he did with Kelly Bryant, this allows the possibility of DJ redshirting the season if a change is made.
I'm still not sure if things will be settled by then but will be interesting to see how things play out. If DJ does lose his starting spot, I'm betting he doesn't bail on the team like Kelly Bryant did. He seems to have way too much character for that.

If he believes he has an NFL career in him he has to go. I think its likely he still believes that. I suspect he believes he could be more successful in a different system. Some media outlets have been critical of our staffs ability to develop quarterbacks. Consider also his Family situation and what his Father is likely telling him. Big whatever his name is isn't so All In.

Great comments. I've known Phil a long time and he is as professional and hardworking as anybody in the business. There is not a better sports talk radio program anywhere. Phil is like Johnny Carson- he does not grate on your nerves like a lot of those loud mouth hosts. He has been fair to both schools and does a fantastic job covering HS football and recruiting.

Phil did the smart thing by making the show his and it only took a few weeks before he was back on the air and with radio stations across the state. I think that says a lot about what people think of Phil and his show! Regardless of the haters on TNet.

Did anyone hear that guy call in re: Staley last night?
Sep 10, 2022, 11:55 AM

"Hank in Columbia" called in and tried to say that Staley probably had her reasons to not want to fulfill the contract with BYU that went beyond the volleyball incident. He said some other coaches have similar reservations about playing BYU because of their stance "on things like LGBTQIA+++, etc."
Then, Hank tried to say people were getting onto Staley for her personal beliefs when they don't do the same when it comes to "a certain coach in the upstate and his personal beliefs."
I can't believe lengths some folks will go to in order to try to defend USuC's stupidity on this BYU matter.
Bottom line: Kornblut did a great job of blowing away Hank's arguments, including what he said related to Dabo.
