Some basketball facts … and three opinions

Fact: The NCAA tournament has 31 automatic qualifiers and there exist 23 other teams with a better record than the 22-9 currently posted by Clemson. That is 54.

Fact: Ten of the above 54 are one (or 1/2) game “better” than Clemson and none of those ten are expected to win their conference tournaments, so are expected to get another loss.

Fact: At 25-9 Clemson is in the NCAA tournament. Duh that.

Opinion: At 24-10 Clemson gets in the NCAA tournament. While just an opinion, at 24-10 the list of teams with a better record will be less than 54 … not assured, but close enough to 100% that one can count on it.

Opinion: At 23-10 Clemson does not deserve an NCAA tournament spot. Anything less than 25-9 will require an INVITATION and that is a fact.

Opinion: Clemson is one of the four teams with serious ACC tournament motivation. The others are North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Duke. I am happy with Clemson bracket position … just win, baby!
