It was the punch seen around the world. A young Charlie Baughman had possession of an intercepted pass thrown by the Ohio State QB in the final seconds of the game against an Ohio State Team. As he was innocently running down the sidelines, a crusty A$$ old fogie by the name of Woody Hayes jumped out there and tripped up Charlie Baughman and then proceeded to punch Charlie Baughman in the neck and face area while gripping his facemask. Thank goodness Woody Hayes never coached another down of football in his pathetic life after that. I almost hate Ohio State more than the South Carolina Gamecocks.... ALMOST.

So, whenever I see Ryan Day imploding up in the Horseshoe, I cannot help but to chuckle to myself and laugh a bit. I LOVE IT! GIVE ME MORE!

I spent most of my formative years in a small town in NW Ohio. My father got his MBA from OSU. So naturally I was a Buckeye fan growing up. Between sophomore & junior year in HS, my father's company transferred him and hence the whole family to Charleston SC. So I completed high school there (class of 1984!), took SATs and AP tests there.

One day I got a letter from Clemson offering me the Frank Johnstone Jervey Scholarship...a full ride...based on my SAT scores (which were good, but I knew a kid with a perfect score and I wasn't anywhere near that), ranking at my HS (valedictorian), etc.

I had not applied to Clemson, so I can only assume they look at all good in-state SAT scores and transcripts.

I honestly knew next to nothing about it except that here they were offering a me a full ride, that my HS girlfriend was planning on going there (she did, that relationship didn't survive the first semester), and that that Clemson player got my man Woody fired.

That HS girlfriend relationship lasted longer than my OSU fandom, which vaporized on my attending my first game, which ended up being the 5th game of the season, as I had skipped the opener (App State) due to hangover and general disinterest in a game OSU was not playing in and the next 3 games were away. I remember hearing/talking about UGA's Butler kicking a 60 yard FG to beat Clemson in Athens.

Finally got another home game (UNC) and managed to roll down the hill from Johnstone maybe sometime in the first quarter with some of my hall-mates (hungover again).

That was it. I was hooked.
