Leigh & Linthicum

Leigh was a 5-star top 50 player by every service. Rivals had Linthicum as the #1 Center.
Next year will be their 3rd season in the Tiger program, with both having approximately 50 career snaps. I guess I hoped and expected to see more of them in their 2nd year. Does anyone know the backstory here? Can we expect to see more of them next year?

There are MANY players who lost a lot of development time due to Covid. Even Ship went over a year without playing. To me, it's shown up across the football landscape the past two-plus years and hasn't been restored to the level of pre-Covid yet.
Combined with the fractious effect of the portal, continuity has taken a pounding.

Everyone develops differently in terms of timing. Getting their bodies right plus their maturity. No one knows how much each contributes next year but hopefully they will be ready

Hopefully they both start on the OL! Add 4* DEs Denoff and Patterson to that list. These are 4 players that must be impact players in their 3rd year!

He was very highly touted, such a huge pickup. When’s the last time he was of ANY impact in a game?
Bresee? Yeah, I know he had a rough time this year, but I still expected him to work harder and to achieve more, especially IN RESPONSE to the trials and tribulations… because THAT’S WHAT CHAMPIONS DO. He was out of shape most of this season.
I am very concerned about player development in the last few years. I really have to question whether our staff demands enough from these guys to get the potential out of them.

Bresee gets a pass from any reasonable person this year. Hope he comes back next year.
Some of these kids are different than when we came up. They don’t respond well to demands. The best coaches , just like the best managers, these days have to figure out what each individual responds best to and then coach/manage them in a way that gets the best response from each individual.

his being out of shape may have been the result of his own health issues.it was mentioned during the acc championship game that he gained something like 45-50 lbs. because of his health status(kidneys?).hopefully he's put that behind him.even if he doesn't stay,wish him success at the next level.

Exactly. The stress of losing his sister, the kidney issues (the stress of losing his sister could have contributed to this). and then strept throat and pneumonia. There is no way he could stay in good playing shape through all that. But again, he gets a pass IMO. The fact that he played at all speaks volumes about this young man. To question whether he responded like a champion is completely absurd and childish.

Leigh was obviously way higher rated. I bet this next season is his year. Linthicum although higher rated by Rivals, was ranked 240 overall and the 18th best center and the 11th best player in MD by 247. I bet they are still coming into their own as redshirt sophomores.

Linthicum was Bresee's buddy and workout partner in HS. He was 1yr behind but he was a given stud based on all scouts yet he hasn't seen the field. How can best Center in HS not see the field 2yrs later!??
I really think we have coaching issues? But Im not sold it's the players fault?. Coaches are too attached to seniority just like DJ and Cade. "Best isn't Standard" as the best players dont always see the field. Now Linthicum may not been the best but 2 yrs in as the #1 player in VA and #1 Center in all of HS, he should be able to see the field!!?
I am surely confused by our recruiting and player analysis lately. Trenton Simpson, A Williams, last minute offers, and are top players on team. Maybe need to examine our recruiting profile analysis.

Depends where you look. Linthicum was the 240th ranked player by 247. He was th 18th rated IOL. He probably had and has a lot of work to do to work his way in.

I understand that other services didn’t have Linthicum as high, but he was still very highly touted. It would seem that 2 years of training and power hours would make him ready. Same with Leigh.
It was super exciting when they signed, and I guess many of us expected to see that on the field by now. Maybe next year.

240th best player isn't even that highly touted. Its solid, but there is no reason to expect him to be startring yet. If h starts for 2 yeas that would be great. He might be right in track now.

He's listed as #2 on the depth chart (UNC Game). Just wondering if there was more to the "expectation" comment that that. I personally don't see it as that cut and dried however. All kinds of shuffling could potentially happen between now and next fall.

services obviously overstated his ability. I don't care what anyone else thinks, if you are rated the NUMBER ONE CENTER IN THE WHOLE US OF A, you should be able to crack the depth chart for playing time, at least sometime in your second year.
So, either he was grossly overrated, or he has stapled himself to the buffet in college instead of working toward playing time.
I will be more than glad to eat crow with a grade of slaw if he suddenly shows up in games.
