It is not "that" this team loses, it is "how" this team loses

It is the most fundamental aspect of the game, turnovers. Unlike most stats, having a number in this category is a direct contributor to wins/losses.

Everyone on TNET will agree with the fact that the Tigers have a severe turnover problem. The entire sports world knows that has been the issue. Sure the offense isn't explosive, but they have been good enough to win every game this year without turning the ball over. But they did, reality is a 4-3 record and the same issues that started week 1 are just as prevalent 8 weeks into the season.

In this fact lies the frustration and disappointment. It is just a game played by boys/young men who are trying to find their way in the world that will eat them alive if you let it. Now, the coaches are paid lots of dough to fix issues, to help correct problems, to coach the players up to their potential. This is not happening and there is not much need in arguing about it.

TNET is a great outlet for me and others, and I am not one for repressing the thoughts of others. I choose to ignore people or simply read post, reply with thoughts or move on, and the world is still turning and most importantly it is a :

"beautiful day to be a Clemson Tiger" Go Tigers!!

4-3, 0-7, 7-0 matters not because I will love Clemson through the good and bad.

The problem is when you are a mediocre football team you only when the close games about 50% of the time. We can say we are 4 plays away from being 7-0 yadda yadda yadda BUT you can't make that claim without acknowledging we are about 3 plays from being 2-5 as well.

Our O-line isn't good enough. Our RBs aren't good enough. Our QB is making a bunch of mistakes. Our WRs are getting better but still don't scare anyone. Our coaches don't seem to be able to correct our problems. This game was a lot easier when we had NFL skill players all over the field.

Also, it's the nature of the turnovers. They are almost cartoonish.

Exactly. I think it was last year when ND drubbed us, I don't remember the turnover situation, but they were clearly the better team and ran us into the ground. I'm not gonna repeat the whole 'we're so close to being undefeated', but it's just the nature of these turnovers. The take as old as time: it's all about fundamentals.

Unfortunately you are correct, like a Tom n Jerry episode...or something Foghorn Leghorn might come up with.

It is nearly unbelievable that we continue to see these same things happen over and over.

Duke maybe, but FSU and Miami were coaching failures

Oct 23, 2023, 8:34 AM

Both of those games should have been won in regulation with decent coaching. A couple of minutes left in Miami with the lead and you take 10 seconds off the clock and depend on your 6 year "legacy" punter to shank as usual. Absolutely inexcusable.

Oh I agree. But no matter what game-plan, you cannot fumble at the goal-line, or fumble inside your opponents 30 yard line when you have chances to score. Coaches are responsible for that, and I have to believe it is being practiced, but it simply is not translating into game play.

It is almost comical at this point.... almost as if you expect it and hope you are finally out of the nightmare when they actually carry the ball across the goal line!!

The sad offensive line play is responsible for at least some of our

turnovers. When a QB has guys coming from the blind side almost from the snap, "strip sacks", as they are called now, are going to happen. They happen in high school, college, the NFL, CFL, and everywhere else football is played. When the QB has to avoid a rusher before he even had time to make his first read, and has to try and manufacture an opening, interceptions are going to happen. And, in the Duke game, one turnover happened because our offensive lineman got blown back clean into the backfield, hitting the exchange point and causing a fumble. Add that to Shipley not wanting to give up the ball on RPO plays, and WAR-LAH, you get what we have. A Perfect Storm of Offensive Ineptitude.

didn't have quite enough, that would be one thing. This offense looks defeated when it takes the field. Looks like it doesn't want to have to have to go out there. Looks like it knows full well what's about to happen. The defense is good, but knows it will give up at least 17 and that's not low enough for our offense to outscore.

Turnovers, no kickers, bad special teams, no tempo, no challenging plays for opposing defenses. Just looks easy to handle.

Yea, very vanilla style. It is almost as if the team is not picking up the offense that Riley is trying to implement so they are just very bland.

Others bring it up and we both know it as well, but the Oline play is not getting it done. It is not all about them because plenty of times Cade has had time, RB have had holes, but not taking advantage of it. Everything just looks very slow, and up-tempo usually is a quick run that gains no yardage or we lose a yard or 2

I hate the way this team loses too. My biggest problem is the lack of discipline. I feel like Klubnik doesn’t run the right play at a crucial time for the second time this season, and yet he doesn’t suffer any consequences as far as playing time. Shipley fumbles multiple times in the red zone, blows up at CJ and nothing happens. You have to set the tone as a coach and let the team know that those kind of mental breakdowns are not acceptable.

The other problem I have is the terrible play calling in the red zone. We have consistently shown an inability to get into the end zone the last two years once we get down close to scoring. I also hate the screen plays when we are moving the ball via other methods. How many drives get stalled by screens putting us 3-5 yards behind?

I have been a Tiger since birth, and always will be. There is a lot to like about this team, and I hope that pays dividends in the next year or two. We just need to focus on cleaning things up for the rest of the year and start preparing for next year.
