How to fix MLB playoffs.....my idea....

Yes the Braves lost but I do think they were put at some disadvantage by having to sit around for a week and a half waiting for the wild card series. My thoughts on how to fix this.....

(First the reg season needs to be shortened by about 2-3 weeks but that won't happen)

Top 8 teams make playoffs in each league and begin play immediately. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 ,etc

Here is my thought....you need to reward the top teams somehow from the regular season so in Round 1 the higher seeded teams need to win 3 games to advance while the lower seeded teams need to win 4 games to advance (you could do 2 wins and 3 wins if you want a short series first round). After this 1st round all remaining series go to conventional best of 7.

This solution allows all teams to continue play immediately from the regular season but rewards the successful teams by having to win one fewer game to advance. Thoughts?

Sounds like you put in some thought but that be like making a wild card team win 2 super bowls over a seeded team. I do agree about the long lay-off.

I've had same thoughts about this idea myself and another idea would be to have all games played at the higher seeded team's stadium throughout series for first round only. Or at the very least, the #1 seed gets all home games while 2 v 7, 3 v 6, and 4 v 5 series alternate theirs.

The way the Braves were hitting not sure 7 would have made any difference.

The Braves were an awesome offensive team and lived on hitting home runs. The Phillies pitchers were better and the Braves died because the Phillies flipped rolls and beat the Braves at their own game. Nothing could "fix" that.

Post game interview, Braves mgr. and a player were both asked about the layoff being a factor in their loss. Both quickly said it had nothing to do with it. Maybe they were being professional in their public statements and did not want to make excuses and come across as whiners. Or maybe they were correct.

You would think a rest after playing a 162 games would be an advantage. Snitker said they did everything during that time to prepare for the series and would do nothing differently.

They just went into a slump, which happens, and the Phillies pitching was good and their bats got hot. I think they hit 9 or 10 more home runs than the Braves. They were aggressive and were just better. Braves had multiple chances to win but left winning runs stranded. They could use another starting pitcher and a couple more hitters. Hope they trade for those in off season.

Maybe instead of that they could beg the Astros to teach them how to handle 5 days off?

Or ask them how to cheat now and get away with it.

The price you pay for winning your division! Face reality, the Braves peaked too soon in the season!

The regular season has to mean something. It pains me that the Phillies finished so far behind and still make it in and get a chance to upset the Braves , when they failed during the regular season.

Frankly, I’m sick of wild card teams. It makes the regular season well nigh worthless.

In the past it was the two divisional winners in the playoffs, but with a third division what do you do?

I think all three teams should play in some sort of round robin tournament w the winner going to the wold series. Play like 10 or 14 games, five or seven against each team, and the team w most wins goes. Not sure on exact format, but it rewards the regular season and gives everyone the same advantage.

They won’t go backwards and take teams out of the playoff so the only option is to give the top seeds more of an advantage that way winning a division actually means something. 3 games at home in a five game series isn’t much of an advantage. They need to make the division series either a 7 game series or give the higher seeds all five games at home.

I don’t think that will solve the layoff issue though and I’m not sure how they address that. It’s obviously a problem. They should have seen that coming because that’s a recurring issue for teams after the all star layoff. The only thing I can think of is requiring the wild card round be 3 games in a row one day after the season ends and then go directly into the division round with no games off for the wild card teams. Less of a layoff and more advantage for the higher seed.
