I posted an overall player profile on Dantzler already – so this is more a single game player profile.

Woodrow Dantzler was a special talent! After this spectacular game in October 2001 he was even getting some consideration for Heisman discussions.

From a personal standpoint:
This 2001 game was made all the more fun for me. Mrs. CBProf and I were at this game in Raliegh with a group from our church consisting of both Clemson and NC St fans. Yes, NC St’s Phillip Rivers was good.

But, Woody Dantzler put on a show!

According to some crazy website called Tigernet (perhaps some of you have heard of this Tigernet website?):

He led the #16 Tigers to a thrilling 45-37 victory, stuffing the stat sheet in the process. Dantzler passed for 333 yards, rushed for a whopping 184 yards, and crossed the goal line six times. His 517 total yards rank 12th all-time in the history of the conference. It was truly a remarkable performance that Clemson fans, and college football fans alike will never forget.

184 - Clemson 2019 Senior Class Outscored the Chickens 184-55

I always found it interesting that when the Gamechickens won five in a row over Clemson, they celebrated it like it was mankind’s greatest success since sliced bread. It was clear they could not “act like they had been there before” because they hadn’t. A win over Clemson certainly appeared to be their high water mark for success – as if the entire season hinged on it for them. It always struck me as being akin to the less successful sibling dealing with long-term failure and with intense jealousy.

Conversely, when Clemson went on an even longer winning streak over the Chickens, it was pretty much just business as usual. Each of Clemson’s football teams between the 2016-2019 beat up on the overmatched little Chickens by at least three touchdowns. For Clemson fans these games were certainly fun (hence it is fun to look back on them now). But Clemson’s true measure of success was based on what the team accomplished in the College Football Playoff. Very different mindset for sure.

2016 (November 26):

- Deshaun Watson threw 6 touchdowns.
- Mike Williams was considerate enough to give little chickens free piggyback rides!

- Ryan Carter secured a 12 yard Pick-6
- Hunter Renfrow with 2 touchdown receptions – including a 61 yarder tht left chickens sprawled all over the field
- Chicken fans display their class by throwing bottles at the Clemson players

2018 (November 24):

Chickens 34
- Trevor Lawrence threw for then career high 393 yards
- Adam Choice scored three touchdowns
- Clemson offense rolled up 744 yards

- Trevor Lawrence threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns
- Justyn Ross collected 9 receptions for 111 yards and 1 TD
- Tee Higgins collected 3 receptions for 101 yards and 2 TD
