Goodwin as a developer of talent

2

Feb 10, 2023, 7:31 AM

Have their been articles about Goodwin's approach and success with developing players?

Who does he have on staff to give that extra knowledge of playing experience and perspective for developing the intricate skills needed?

Said another way... who is the new Jimmy Greenbeans?

That will be what to watch and evaluate with Goodwin for this year. And the next

If you are going to criticize the team and coaches it’s only fair to be criticized for your poor grammar!Go Tigers.

I don't know the answer to your question. I'm disappointed in Dabo's overall technique for hiring football Coaches. He seems to roll the dice on people more often than I'd like to see. If you're an Xs and Os Coach you can do that because you can teach them yourself. Dabo is a relationships and organization guy. He needs to hire football people even if they don't perfectly fit the mold in other ways.

If you dont like Dabo's technique for hiring coaches whom would you say does it better? I would also ask who he has hired who is not a football person? BTW I get you may not like a particular hire but every single one is a football person...

I think you just made a successful argument against yourself.

Steph Anthony is a grad assistant, Jeff Davis is still in the house, and I think Kirkland is as well

Really? You do realize he has only coached 1 year. Please.

people trying to write the dude off after 1 season in which he performed fairly well under the circumstances.

1 year as a DC, struggling offense, tons on injuries...

People forget that he was so respected by BV that he would have been the DC at OU had we not signed him.

Dabo has proven with Billy Napier, Kevin Steel, and Brandon Streeter that he will fire you when the time is right. People need to start having some faith in Dabo's process

I’d say our LBs looked pretty dang good this year and that’s the position he coaches.

He has Nick Eason, that is why we are killing it on the DL recruiting. But as far as players saying Goodwin will make them the best NFL guys, i surely hope in all honesty that the players can see Eason and McCord.

I have serious doubt about our big time player respect from recruiting. That said, we have pulled good players but Goodwin needs the LBs too and where are the 4-5* LBs.

More importantly, skipping Def, where are the 5* WRs that we used to get 1-2 every season. We need some WRs of hi caliber asap!

They don't call him Weslichek for nothing!
Since Brent Venables wanted him that's good enough for me! Brent knows who holds the secret sauce.

THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM OF WES!!!...

But they call him that because of his defense schemes.

He's been an off-field coach up until now, so we really don't know anything about his personal ability to develop talent.

Mike Reed has developed a ton of NFL talent, people seem to forget this. He's one of the best coaches on the staff, last year between injuries and guys being in Dabos "love shack" he had to once again throw freshmen into the fire more than anticipated.
