We should be increasing the basketball budget.
I honestly think we should be spending at least 15m a year on the Basketball program. Marketing is an issue and needs to be addressed.
Anyways Judge Keller® is correct and we have a surplus in funding according to this source by about 15m per year. We spend 8m currently. Why not pump the budget up to 15m and see what we could really do?

pay for all of the other sports on campus.
Baseball, soccer, golf, softball, rowing, track, etc. all lose money. They require funding from football and men's basketball to stay afloat (no pun intended for the rowing team).
Is that funding surplus before or after we spend money on these other programs? I am assuming it's before...

So I’m on record before he responds. I’ll acknowledge that Clemson changed reporting methodology in 23. The league revenue is no longer allocated by sport and is applied to the general athletic column. But in 2022 we still lost $2.3 million on basketball while making $16.6 million on football. Costs for basketball went up over $2 million from 22-23, so even if we apply the missing revenue, basketball lost over $4.3 million in 2023.

I am not one to throw money at something Willy Nilly. I want the coaches to have what is necessary to consistently have a top 25 program. Let the coaches work with Neff to identify what is needed to let the coaches be successful.

You are correct! It's about shots falling. But how many more shots will fall if we are a top 3 brand in the ACC beside Duke and UNC?
Will this help us recruit and retain higher talent? The data supports an answer of yes to this question.
Would it increase the University's visibility in the market? Again the data shows yes.
Would it give us greater leverage for conference re-alignment when that occurs? Again yes.
Would it give the athletes a better playing experience overall? Yes is the answer again.
Increasing funding for Basketball would be a win-win for the University and the program.
It's hard for me to understand why anyone would be against it with a surplus in the Athletic budget.

I believe that a new state of the art college basketball arena would be a huge plus for recruiting the kind of talent that it takes for winning championships. These young athletes love bragging about having one of the nicest arenas in the country where they play their games at...

I am fine adding more money to the budget, but don't forget this does not include 2 massive capital projects to improve the basketball facilities. LJ improvements 10 years ago were $60 million plus. I thought they should have blown it up and started again, but they did not ask my opinion for some odd reason. We also have an upcoming $60 million (I think) addition to add/improve practice facilities, etc. So we aren't exactly doing it on the cheap.
One reason I want so much for bball to be consistently successful and competitive, like the last 2 years, is to become a big revenue producer. Some say it is a chicken or egg approach. Which comes first? In this day and age there is little doubt the investment must come first. That is a big reason we want out of the ACC - to get more money to invest across all sports.

According to Brownell, we've had "some of the best facilities in the ACC and the country" and "a first-class experience" for the student athletes for 8 years.
Clemson hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newest round of renovations in Littlejohn on October 14, 2016. These upgrades took roughly 16 months to complete, beginning shortly after the 2014-15 season in order to have them done as efficiently as possible. Their game against Georgia on Nov. 11 of 2016 served as their “grand reopening” of the stadium, allowing fans to experience the renovations first-hand.
This $63.5 million project consisted of a number of upgrades, along with the addition of some features to help accommodate players and provide them with the best equipment and atmosphere possible.
“What a great day for Clemson Basketball,” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Brownell. “In 2013, when we first took steps to renovate Littlejohn Coliseum, Joe and Bobbi Swann aided in the advancement of both programs with the construction of the Swann Pavilion. This new project, spearheaded by Jim and Candace Brown, will continue to give us some of the best facilities in the ACC and the country, while enabling us to consistently provide our student-athletes with a first-class experience. I want to thank the Browns for their considerable generosity and strong support of our program.”
Not to mention the $40M expansion and renovation of Swann Pavilion on the board.

We don’t aspire to be Duke, but that funding figure is more than enough to have a consistent basketball program. Money is NOT why we’ve been mediocre most years.

This site is not accurate and is non-standardized between schools. The basketball program LOST nearly $8.2 million on a $15.6 million dollar budget last year. Judge Keller has been corrected on this many times, even before blocking me. He lies to denigrate Clemson.

It’s almost as though there aren’t detailed financial reports available on the Clemson website and that folks are fishing for numbers that sell their story.
