If Lanning or Kiffen doesn’t take it, keep your eye on Mike Norvell. Recent success, high level recruiter that will use the portal to bring in high level talent. Would have to use it less and could just cherry pick the best portal players mixed with what the Bama name would allow him to do as a recruiter (use it far less than at FSU). Also and X’s and O’s Guy, as the AD mentioned as a priority in the search.

No one is talking about it, but I could see them going to the nfl and getting someone. Vrabel’s style of good defense and running the ball would fit right in.

I doubt Alabama is drawing parallels to today's coaching search and what happened with Perkins 40 years ago. It's completely irrelevant.

And if I recall correctly, when Saban was first approached, he rebuffed Alabama’s offer, insisting he was going to stay in Miami.
But, as we all know, every man has his price, and Alabama just kept sweetening the pot for Nick, until he was on his way to Tuscaloosa.

I think Norvell is a longshot at best. There are only a few coaches that Alabama would hire. I think Dabo is on top of their list followed by Lanning and Kiffen. If they are looking for a proven winner with championship pedigree, then Dabo would be their obvious choice. He also is an Alabama grad. The next week will be interesting. Hopefully Dabo stays right where he's at.

I was saying I think he might be a fallback guy if everyone says no. IMO Dabo likely won’t even get a call, his goals and Alabama don’t align. Dabo and Clemson is a perfect marriage. Alabama is winning above all else, Dabo is about that, but also developing men and doing things his way… I don’t need to go into what those are as we all know who Dabo is and his focus as a coach.

The elephant in the room regarding Dabo's desirability by Bama is his pretty much exclusive stance to not buy portal players. IMO Bama is not going to let that fly so he would have to in effect sell his soul on that matter. There is an interview out there in which Dabo states he may "do things differently if he was somewhere other than Clemson" when talking about the portal. And in that answer he may have been referring to simply using it more to build a roster vs buying portal players. It's a very interesting and significant twist in this. Plus how much do they weigh that we have had three slightly disappointing years in a row here?

DeBoer is a South Dakota guy with no connection to Bama and is not familiar with the recruiting territory.
The only criteria he meets is that he seems a decent coach.
