Conference Buy Out Question

This may be a dumb thought but if the buyout is $120M and the SEC/BIG pays between $75-$50M why wouldn't we move and pay half our yearly monies to the ACC for 4 years. Seems like we would get almost the same yearly funding as we do now for the next 4 years.

It’s not just the buyout that’s prohibitive. This article explains it pretty well.

IF not for the GOR, that would be a slam dunk easy decision. Except for two

things:

1) ESPN, via the GOR, would STILL own the rights to broadcast our games through 2036. Now, if we were to join the SEC, which ESPN also pretty much owns, that is not a problem. Which leads me to 2).

2) WE DO NOT HAVE AN INVITATION TO JOIN ANOTHER CONFERENCE. Delusion about this is almost as bad as delusion about the Transfer Portal. Just as players in the Portal have to CHOOSE Clemson, so does another conference. And, as incredible as it might seem to US, no other conference has found us that desirable yet. That GOR that we, and the rest of the ACC so foolishly signed back in 2016, to STOP other conferences from potentially poaching our members, has done exactly that. Congratulations, one of the first modern contracts that actually accomplished what it set out to do. Who knew?

1) ACC owns our GOR - they used them to negotiate Media Rights contract

with ESPN. Us moving to the SEC because ESPN has a media deal with them has nothing to do with the check they have to cut to the ACC for our rights due to GOR.
