Clemson's Only Benefit From Staying in the ACC

Aug 9, 2023, 10:36 AM

With the expanded playoffs as long as we win the ACC we are guaranteed a spot. Let the other teams beat themselves up and tire themselves out from cross country travel while we sit back ready to bounce come Dec/Jan.

It won't for the SEC and Big10 but it will for the ACC. How many times over the last several years have two ACC teams ended up ranked in the top 12? Without a conference championship ACC teams will have a tough road to an at large bid.

Winning our conference won't matter.

Sure, it may get us into the playoff as an automatic qualifier, but in a few years, we won't be competitive in the playoff, as the money gap grows greater and greater between ACC schools, and the other big conferences.

Since schools can't actually pay the players

I'm not sure how having less money hurts that much - in the day and age of NIL. Only so many facilities you can add to please a player. And that type of player is more interested in NIL money

Kids with a real shot at the NFL want to play for the best teams in the best conferences. The SEC and B1G have distanced themselves from everyone else even more so than before in terms of competition.

Kids know these are the biggest games of interest and exposure and that absolutely means something to them and creates a big recruiting advantage.

You have no way of knowing that. Sankey already wants to renegotiate automatic qualifiers. What if none? Clemson would have to go undefeated to get in with schedule unless other teams improve and with less money it will be hard to

Whats the point of making the playoffs only to get embarrassed

Aug 9, 2023, 12:22 PM

Like the former Pac 12? Staying in the ACC will kill our recruiting and we would not be competitive against the SEC and B1G teams.

The ACC will probably make teams start reporting their athletic program's carbon footprint.
