He changed the game for Clemson by starting our offense at the 35-40 yard line or better after each kick.

CJ was a complete running back who played behind a line that could block. As we sat in our seats in The Valley, many times we saw our linemen raise their arms for a touchdown as soon as CJ cleared the linebackers because they know nobody could catch CJ. We need that speed today.

Sometimes I watch CJ and ETN highlights and try to decide who is better. Both were outstanding at Clemson and brought a level of excitement to the field matched by few others.

ETN is easily the better between the tackles back and even by senior year he was good out the backfield catching the ball. CJ however was much better downfield catching the ball. That CJ wheel route

Nothing lasts forever. Still CJ Spiller remains the greatest open field runner in the history of college football. No one has come close to his record number of TD runs of greater than 50 yards.


ETN was a better back running from behind the line of scrimmage.

If you were lucky enough to see them both run, you were indeed a lucky man.

I agree that ETN was the "better running back behind the line of scrimmage". However, I can't think of another college player (Clemson or elsewhere) that I felt would score EVERY single time he touched the ball.

ETN would take himself out of games too often.

To me, that was the biggest difference. CJ would just about die on the field. That GA TeCH acc champ game was one of the craziest performances I’ve ever seen.

Loved ETN though. He would just get gassed compared to CJ.

Was the fact that when he scored so fast it put our defense back on the field too soon. Good problem to have but still factual.

I was in Miami when I turned to my bud and said let's grab a beer before half they ain't kicking to CJ. Luckily he said let's wait and the rest is history. 🐅
