Arizona is not Baylor...

Baylor may not have been the same team late in the season or, as good as advertised. A key injury wasn't good for their lack of depth. A starting five consisting of two freshmen and three transfers didn't help their continuity and isn't the usual make-up of a deep run tournament team. Maybe Vegas had it all wrong, maybe Clemson should have won both games.

Arizona shares little resemblance to Baylor. First, the wildcats are experienced, starting four seniors, which includes plenty of NCAAT experience. Aside from Zona's own three straight tourney bids (all as #1 or #2 seeds) two transfer additions were former key players of Championship Finalist teams: Caleb Love ('22 UNC) and Keshad Johnson ('23 San Diego St.)

Secondly, Baylor was touted as a balanced, high flying offense but, Arizona genuinely has one. They've reached 90+ points seventeen times this season. Eight times they've hit the century mark of 100; and this isnt a case of flying up and down the court and trading baskets. Arizona's average margin of victory is 16 pts/gm (3rd in the country).

The perennial powerhouse opened the season pummeling their opponent by 63, while eight players reached double figures. Then, days later, flew across country and beat #2 Duke, in Cameron. They tallied 200 points in those two games yet, the leading scorer in each had 18 and 14. Further demonstrating their balance, EIGHT different players have led the team in scoring this season.

Arizona never lost back to back games but, stumbles against Stanford and Oregon St. darkened the form of a 15-5 conference record. Like many ACC schools, the wildcats had to deal with a conference image problem. The PAC12 (6-3 in tourney play) corrected some of that by getting all four bids to the second round including #10 and #11 seeds. Perhaps, with that sort of showing, Arizona's league play isn't as disconcerting. If not, their OOC schedule carries enough assurance with wins over Duke, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Alabama. They dropped two but, there's little shame in losing a close one to Purdue (92-84) and pushing FAU to double-overtime.

In his third year as head coach, Tommy Lloyd is an impressive 88-19 (.822). However, his two previous squads have had disappointing early exits:
'23- Loss in Round of 64 as #2 seed
'22- Loss in Sweet16 as #1 seed

This is his Lloyd's first HC job but, he spent 20 years as an assistant in Mark Few's Gonzaga program gaining plenty of Tournament experience.

Oh, for sure! But no doubt the games are getting twice as tough each game. Clemson not only will have to continue their solid play but step up and be even better.

their hands full with the AZ backcourt. Clark will have to be big around the rim. If that happens and Girard catches fire, it will be a great game to the end.

One thing is certain. If we lose by 20 or by 1 in double OT, it will be because CBB did not:
- Have a game plan
- Motivate the players
- Make adjustments
- Make shots
- Make FTs
- Play defense
- Select proper carb meal
- Recruit McDonalds AAs
- Satisfy you ####'s every desire

Perhaps they're going to approach this game looking ahead to their next opponent. They are overwhelmingly the favorite in just about every, single statistical category you can come up with.

Maybe that fact alone means we can come in and shock them? Let's hope so.

I've lived in AZ for the last 20 years and I've seen a lot of Wildcat basketball. They have a great program and were particularly productive during the Lute Olson days. They are very tough to beat at home and were 15-1 this year. I attended the game the last time we played them in Tucson which was 2011. They beat us 63-47.

However, they are vulnerable away from home. This year, between away games and neutral sites combined, they were 12-7. They were only 5-3 at neutral sites.

I'm not saying they won't be a tough out but we do have a much better chance against them on a neutral floor.

Go Tigers!

On a neutral court a lot of momentum comes from the energy of the crowd. AZ is not well liked in CA. People like to pull for the underdog and I think we will be surprised by how much Clemson support we will have on Thursday night.

I seriously doubt it will feel anything like a home game for them...

I spent some time there as well. A lifetime ago I was a ranch hand, across Mt.Lemmon in San Manuel, about an hour from Tucson. I got one day off a month and I'd head into "Old Pueblo".

Or are you talking about Phoenix?

I wasn't crazy about the desert but my biggest takeaway... and it's still vivid to this day... is how well the stars light up the night sky, and how plentiful they are... like something you see in a movie or a filtered photograph

They are capable of losing to anyone at any given time too. Few of us “expected” to make it this far. They just need to go out and play their best and see what happens. Beating Baylor is no guarantee we beat Arizona just like losing to BC was no guarantee we would lose to Baylor.

Nice recap of the situation. I hope PJ can stay out of foul trouble but with their experience they will surely go at him hard. I thought Clemson was disruptive on D and that slowed down Baylor's offensive output. We will need more of the same on Thursday.

I believe our players will show and play hard. But, which Head Coach will show up. If the coach that showed up in 1st round of ACCT shows we will get run out of the arwna. However, if the same coach that just got us to the sweet 16 shows up, we will WIN in a close game.... Go Tigers.

We proved that by nearly beating a quarter of the sweet16 field. Two late losses, two hole points separate us from that feat. The Duke & NCSU losses were.... not even getting into all that...just call them learning experiences

and it is time for P.J. to really show up! Chad will drive Tigers to victory again. I have never seen him with that much passion to win, thankfully! Always "crafty" Joseph Girard is racing up the court like a dynamo. Chef is causing problems for the opponents all over the floor and having fun doing it. Clark has been consistent rebounding and could break out as a scorer. Even if the starting 5 are doing well, make sure Gpdfrey gets at least 15 minutes, who has become the best 6th man in NCAA.

The biggest advantage towards Clemson, and I’ve been saying it, is that they got a great path to the final 4 even.

A “great path” meaning that there was really only two elite coaches in our region, that’s Tom Izzo and Scott Drew. And now Brad has beaten Drew, and Izzo is gone.

Arizona and Baylor as the 2 and 3 seeds was a lucky draw. They are indeed great basketball programs, and Baylor does have a coach with a title, but they’re not the same this year. Very vulnerable.

Now, Arizona is known to be a program to come up short in the last couple decades. I’ll actually post their choke jobs on the actual board after this.

They are very susceptible to losing this type of game. Especially with how well we are playing.

There couldn’t be a better 2 seed to play. I’ll be honest.

Totally agree, I stated on this forum on Selection Sunday that I thought they were gifted a favorable bracket.

Clemson can definitely beat Arizona and not to look ahead but on the other side of this bracket we've beaten both of those teams already.

I hope the fire they've caught is just getting started.
