Coach Smarts pre game tirade I have even more respect for coach Swinney. I thank the tnetter who posted that.
If you were the father of an 18 year old superstar footballer who would you rather turn your son over to for four years? Smart and win 45 games or Swinney and win 42? Is that a tough question?

Do you guys really believe Dabo hasn’t cussed in any of his pregame speeches or any other time with the team? I’ve seen the camera on him at games and he’s said every word Kirby said.

I agree. I do not understand why these guys think they have to talk like a sewer rat to get their point across. Kirby & Jimbo Fisher are worse than a bad Hollywood movie when it comes to F-Bombs and you are correct, they would never get my son for 4 years. Jimbo & Kirby are running NFL Football factories. Dabo is producing real men for a better life after football. I take door #2, thanks.

You omitted the part about competing for national championships and being developed for the NFL. Seems a few "F" bombs are a small price to pay.

Kirby being a former player knows how to motivate his players. His tactics seem to produce the desired results. WE WILL NOT BE HUNTED!

I'm 58 and I cringed while hearing him use all the F words and the swearing in general. However, its just part of the language for kids today. My 17 year old grandson visited for Christmas and I heard him in his room using the F word when he thought he was out of earshot of me. Disappointing and just points to where we are as a society. I have no problem with being intense. In fact, I think kids need that.

I spent quite a bit of time with coach Howard. He had a very colorful vocabulary usually in a joking manner. I never heard him use the f word.

So that makes it OK? My children don't talk that way and my daughter who works for large government agency will not allow it around her in the workplace.

Your daughter probably works at some SC agency or is just a low level flunky. As someone very close with the major federal agencies, which are much more selective, people swear like sailors there.

Why do grown-ups get so upset by a few words that someone has deemed to be "bad" ?
Words are tools and they have to viewed in the context in which they are used. Using strong words to get your players fired up for the biggest game of their young lives seem appropriate to me. Maybe we could grow out of our puritanical adolescence and become mature enough to not lose our minds over certain words.

It may be ok for some people to not be bothered and maybe for some reason like hearing those words. By the same token, is certainly ok for some people to abhor those words, especially the f word. It seems coach Smert has zero concerns for those that abhor those words. To me it just shows a lack of command for the English language and complete disregaurd for those that find it offensive. Same goes for the media execs that air it to general public. I was around coach Howard quite a bit. He could use some colorful language. I never heard him use the f word.

He said it in the privacy of his locker room. I did not see it played to the general public. I had to click a link and then hit play, all my choice.
Reminds me of the Kenny Hatfield sugar days.

if it is on the net, it is out to general public. Whoever controls that outlet of the net, youtube, whoever, allowed it. Coaches know with 100 phones in the locker room that what they say will be recorded.

Any adult who gets "offended" by mere words isn't worth having regard for.

It isn’t a question of being offended. Sure all these guys have heard what Smart was spouting many times. The point is... a grown man, a coach who has the responsibility of caring for these players should have enough respect for EVERYONE to try and be a positive influence. Shouting a flurry of f bombs and other curse words show a lack of education and certainly a lack of respect for everyone involved. Coaches should be a leader of young men. What I heard isn’t a show of leadership. It a show of a poor education and certainly a lack of respect. But, if that’s the way he makes his point, so be it!

Forresttiger you are correct. Most all of us have heard it at some time. Pregame speech is incorrect. It was not a speech it was a screaming, cursing and somewhat incoherent rant. Maybe the poor guy needs medications I am not making an attempt to be funny. I am serious.
