Driving home from the lake the other day
I cut thru campus to miss the 123 traffic.

Kids swarming like ants from all over the place -- tags from places like Idaho.

Passed Bowman Field -- kids everywhere. Some were doing a teambuilding exercise with those huge flags that spell CLEMSON.

I smiled.

Clemson is a special place. More special maybe then even my beloved alma mater in Austin thats gotten so dern big and impersonal and corporate.

Clemson's just more warm and inviting. Tighter-knit.

But beyond that, I get why the Swinneys of the world push back when people like me say
they make too much money, or that they dont win enough to justify what they do make.

Its not about the money. The money is incidental.

They're shaping little humans who one day will go off and do good things.

Maybe not always big things, mostly they'll be like the rest of us -- just moving the ball forward a yard or two before handing it to the generation that follows them.

But that's still an altogether worthy thing.

U drove thru because u wanted to see a campus that us a real campus i. A town and a state that breathes the right orange. I'm glad u got caught up in the moment but once u got home u got jealous and had to write that down.

Next time when u r gonna "skip" traffic then just go another way. Don't need u in together town. We good!

Also, I don't think you can breathe a color. And I certainly wouldn't want to compare SC and Texas, or Clemson and Austin, or the University of Texas and Clemson University. They aren't particularly comparable.

And I wouldn't say that jealously is what I was experiencing. More just a moment where I remembered why my wife and the two generations before her all attended and still love Clemson.
