RE. How I Met Your Mother.

I am probably the only one here that watches it, but a few weeks ago I developed a theory that the kids are enduring this story because something happens to the Mother. I had to put this in writing before it became they dropped anymore clues that I'm right.

they were in 2024. I hope you're wrong...I have watched this show regularly from the beginning. One of the only shows that can make you laugh and cry in the same 30 minutes.

You are right. The mother is dying. They basically told us. I completely missed it, but the wife played it again so I could see it.
1 - She says you can't be a person who lives in the past telling old stories. Move forward.
2 - When Ted mentions a mother missing a wedding they both cry. As in Ted's wife wont be around to see their kids get married.

The whole show has Bob Saget telling the story some time in the future to his kids. As jbvideo said, a good chunk of last night's show was interaction of Ted and his wife some time in the future.
My wife's guess is that Ted's wife is diagnosed with something terminal. Cancer or something like that.
**spoilers be below**
Which alludes to why Ted got all emotional when she said "Of course her mother showed up. No mother would miss her daughter's wedding." Because he knows she'll be dead long before their daughter gets married.

Ted and wife (aka Ted with grayed sideburns like the when the two of them were at the dinner table in last night's episode) is "sometime in the future."
Ted telling kids about mom is 2024.

waking up on New Years day 2024 and having to Barney's hangover cure. I have just developed a theory that the mother does die in 2024 and Ted is telling the story because he is about to marry again.

and he is terrible at it. We know it happens, and now we know who it is, but in keeping with Ted's tragic character like you said, it would be fitting that the soulmate he finds and fathers kids with would die early and he would be a single Dad...in Chicago.
Ted is normally a character I would end up hating, I mean, come on, get your #### together...but for some reason I like him. I think that is because he is a DGuarchitect and he got to bone Robin Scherbatsky.

did show that she had met everybody before hand. Was in in a classroom that Ted wrongly walked into when he first started teaching. They showed that Ted and the Mother have just missed bumping into each other time and time again. They also covered how it would not have mattered if they had run into each other because they were both hung up on somebody else.
