campaigning for a one loss Bama and LSU (without a conference championship) to get in the CFP ahead of some undefeated or one-loss conference champions.
As an example;
Bama beats LSU this week
Georgia wins out and beats Bama for the $EC championship
You now have three $EC teams with one loss
Ohio State wins out and wins the BIG championship
Oklahoma wins out and wins the Big XII championship
Utah wins out and wins the Pac 12 championship
Clemson wins out and wins the ACC championship
Bama is 12 - 1
LSU is 11 - 1
Georgia is 12 - 1
Ohio State is 13 - 0
Oklahoma is 12 - 1
Utah is 12 - 1
Clemson is 13 - 0
In this scenario, Georgia, Ohio State and Clemson are absolutely in.
So...who gets left out?
IMO...Utah should be the 4th team in.

I think you're right on all points including the media talking up the narrative of a 2nd SEC team possibly getting in. I think what people overlook with the talk of the media campaigning for more SEC teams is the creation of hype.
I think it's less ESPN being desperate to have more SEC teams in, and more trying to create hype around multiple games as well as hype for their selection shows. Take the final selection show last year for instance. It was clear to most that the 4 teams were going to be Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma, and ND. Driving home the argument of Georgia deserving to be in ahead of ND though created drama for people to tune into the show to see the outcome.
I think the SEC only gets a 2nd team in if it's over another P5 team with at least 1 loss, and likely that the P5 team has 2 or more losses.
So basically Alabama wouldn't be out of the running with a loss this weekend, but they'd need some help to get in if they do lose.

when the CFP committee starts putting multiple teams from the same conference in the CFP, they are contributing to their own demise.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking it doesn’t play a factor.
A one loss LSU/Bama/UGA will have a whole heckuva lot more fans show up to the Superdome then the 3 Utah fans that would make the trip.

The loser of the Bama v LSU game is likely out without a lot of help.

Bama is probably out with one loss only if all of the following happens:
Clemson goes undefeated Ohio State goes undefeated LSU beats Bama and suffers no regular season losses Georgia suffers no additional regular season losses Georgia beats LSU in SEC Champ. game
I can't see any solid argument for putting Alabama in if all of those things happen.

I don't think it's that clear cut, especially if Tua can't play. The committee will have their perfect excuse that with Tua, Bama is among the best 4 teams.
Even if he plays, whoever loses that game will have a much 'better' loss than Oklahoma or Oregon/Utah. Only Penn State, assuming a loss to OSU, would be comparable in that regard.
I'm not making a prediction on which way the committee will go for the 4th spot but the case could easily be made for all 3 of Bama/LSU loser, Oklahoma assuming no more losses, and Oregon/Utah winner assuming no more losses. And although I think we could beat any of them, let's be honest, would you rather face the Bama/LSU loser first round or the PAC12/Big12 champs? Would anyone bet on Utah or Oregon to beat Bama or LSU head to head? Of course not.

I think they would need a good bit of help elsewhere to get in.

I actually heard (surprise of all surprises) Heather Dinich on Championship Drive last night say Bama gets left out if they lose to LSU because their resume lacks quality wins (as opposed to others in the 1-loss category). Of course then Jim Mora did his best impersonation of the old lady from the Polaner All Fruit commercial!!

IMO the ultimate nightmare scenario for Bama is if Baylor wins out. I REALLY don't think that'll happen, but if it did they would have solid wins over Texas, Oklahoma and KState, plus an additional win over likely Oklahoma or KState depending on who they'd play in the B12 championship. You CAN'T keep that out, and assuming LSU, Clemson and either O310 St/Penn St are all 13-0, Bama gets to watch from home on New Year's.
That's the most clear-cut path to keeping Bama out, but not the most likely. Not that I care; they're the same team as last year with a worse defense.

Bama is already our female dog after last January. Not sure how losing to LSU can make them anything else.
