on Canada and Mexico, they're just trying to make sure they can find some good excuse. You know the ones he threatened, then pulled back on, then enacted, yeah, he's going to pull back again. Wonder what the concession will be? Haven't seen one yet.

You're right . When Trump made that child cancer survivor an honorary secret service member it did appear to hurt the hundreds of Democrats in the room, based on the complete lack of emotion other than the scowls on their face. They had a similar reaction when he named that park for the dead little girl who was murdered by illegals. They seemed very unhappy and hurt when he did that also. You're quite astute aren't you?

He is helping other angry dissatisfied people express their anger. He doesn't accomplish things, but he says what they want and attacks the people that anger them. That's his purpose politically. Other than he is just looking to benefit himself.

Of the Republican Party. A girl I went to high school with was complaining about the high cost of groceries. She grew up low income and seemingly still is today. She was staunchly conservative in high school and appears to still be to this day.
I couldn’t help but think, what in the past 20 years has the Republican Party actually done to improve the lives of low to middle income earners? I honestly can’t think of anything. Almost everything they’ve done has just been obstructionists to the Democratic agenda. Their policy gains have been tax cuts that benefitted the highest income earners.
I obviously see why high income earners would vote Republican because they’re benefitting. But what encourages these low to middle income earners to vote against their own interests?

Most MAGA people don't want to be left alone. Most Republicans do, but MAGA people don't relate. MAGA people want rallies and violence. They want things their way and they are angry. They want government in other people's lives and they would love a MAGA Gestapo of sorts.

Lester doesn't get that his opinion is old news. Obviously, the majority of the American people differ from his thoughts. Living in the past is a pit where he and the other defeated can name call and fight each other reveling in their gloom. His ignorance is his beacon of light.

You said MAGA and angry and violence. The most violent cities in our country are ran by democrats. Democrats commit 83% of the crimes in this country. You are nothing but a angry liberal who couldn't make it in life so you blame Trump.

high income earners. All of the tax brackets above the 10% bracket/bottom bracket were reduced, the child tax credit was doubled and the phase-out threshold was raised, and the std deduction was increased substantially.

most reasonable people wouldn't consider a $500 decrease on average of tax cuts for the bottom 60% of earners to be a true benefit to them especially when offset by the inflationary pressures created by the tax cuts.
Those cuts were merely lipstick on a pig to claim they were helping everyone.

and the bottom 60% pays a very small amount of the total personal income tax burden. I would think $500 vs what they actually normally pay would be measurable for most!

1

And those higher profits lead to inflation how?
Also, the revenue didn't decrease. 2018 (year TCJA was in place) revenues were higher than 2017 revenues.
Not to mention the inflation rate in the first 3 yrs following the TCJA was 2.44%, 1.81%, 1.23%.

Yeah, look at those years. The worst economic collapse in our life time, covid, and 2023 was a fluke from inflation factors and an unusual capital gains realization from the inflated stock market in 2021.

charitable donations were excluded? I sure don't remember that...
Mar 5, 2025, 3:16 PM

I thought the change that played in that area was the increase in the std deduction means a lot less people itemized...but that doesn't mean you pay more taxes. If your charitable donations and other deductions were below the std deduction, then you take the std deduction now.
I remember something about home office changes/higher scrutiny, but I don't remember the details. I've never been able to claim my home office since I also have an offices in the office.

I now have 1 deduction-the standard one. Home office and charitable deductions were "closer" to the bottom line than the standard deduction. Certainly not a 1:1, but better than the standard deduction even at the increased amount.
Literally nothing income wise changed from year to year, except that I owed more taxes at year end.

I know my EOY tax year pay out went from a 'normal' $2-$3K federal, to $8-$12K federal. I've always filed as married, zero, and 2-3 years ago started filing as single, zero, just to get more taken out. I still owe at EOY.
Last year was different--I almost actually broke even, but I think Biden played with the taxes some.
I prob make 8% more now than I did in 2018. I'd have to look at my AGI since then, but it's not enough to warrant the abrupt increase in EOY taxes I pay.
All I know is I can't afford any more of Trump's "tax cuts".

Now she's a mental zombie more worried about pronouns, bathrooms, or immigrants then her own security.
