Fastest way to an 8 team playoff in next year or two?

I see two scenarios that could actually happen coming out of this weekend, either of which would almost certainly prompt an expansion of the playoff system.
1) Bama gets upset in SEC championship game, SEC left out of playoff. (Not saying I think Bama will lose, but if they did, Armageddon ensues.) That scenario guarantees playoff expansion next year, IMO.
2) FSU has another "lackluster" win against GT, while all the other Power 5 Conference champions look incredibly good in winning their games, and FSU gets left out of the playoff with an undefeated record. (Don't think the Committee would have the balls to do this, but, they are already doing things different than polls in previous years, so who knows?) ESPN probably wouldn't have nearly the same level of moral outrage as scenario #1, but others would.

the current 4-team playoff system is contracted to be in place through at least the 2025.

4 sec teams vs the world. Although I believe that it just makes to have the conference champions go at it with the highest rated at large team included.

An 8 team playoff could potentially mean having as many as 4 or 5 SEC teams in. But we all keep saying the SEC is not as good as they say it is. So that would give us an even bigger chance to prove it.

If you go to 8 teams the power 5 conferences will make sure their champions are included. I would also expect some provision where the highest rated little-5 team inside the top 20 also made it in. That would leave 2 spots for at large teams. This year it would be Michigan St. and one of TCU/Baylor/Kansas St. That scenario would also give ND another reason to join the ACC.

8 teams. 5 conference champions. 1 slot reserved for the best team from the non-power-five conferences, 2 at-large slots. Limit conferences to 1 at-large team.
Benefits: 1. Regular season has real meaning. 2. Each power-five conference is guaranteed a slot. 3. The other conferences have a seat at the table. 4. No conference (sec) has more than 2 slots. 5. Notre Dame would be motivated to join a conference.
It might not get a playoff with the 8 "best" teams but it would be good for college football. I've alwayed believed those in the media (espn) who argue for the "best" teams in the playoff really are arguing for as many sec teams as possible in the playoff.

gotten Miss St in ahead of Mich St thanks to the inexplicable rankings shuffle. This is what happens when you put a Politician on a College Football Playoff Committee. She didn't have the balls (really!) to do what was right.
