He said when he played, players had to have second jobs to support themselves and their families. He worked construction, pouring concrete, (hence his nickname, “Concrete Charlie”). He said, he made more money working construction than he ever did playing football. The last time I saw Earl Campbell, he was in a wheel chair, because of the punishment his body took, playing football. An interviewer asked him if he had any regrets, and he said no. If I had it to do all over again, I’d do it. I loved the game just that much. A defensive lineman, whose name I can’t remember, recently said, I’d play this game, if I never got a dime. The game means that much to me. If you’ve never read it, read the book”Instant Replay, The Green Bay Diary of Jerry Kramer”. Those were football players, that was when the game meant more than a buck. Sure, they got paid, but I’d be willing to bet, most played the game because they loved football.
There was a semi pro team in a near by town some years ago. When they had tryouts, the owner told them, what they could pay the players, but then he told them not to expect anything, because the team probably wouldn’t make enough to pay them. The only real thing he could offer them was a chance to play. And that was really all they wanted. They had over 300 players to try out, just for the love of the game.

I don’t know about plumbers, but I was an industrial control electrician. I didn’t always like my job, but I did love the work I did. Doing a well done job was extremely satisfying, and I’d be willing to bet a lot of plumbers fell the same way, regardless of the crap they had to deal with.

Maybe that’s something you don’t get.

perception...perception by other team members across the college football spectrum.

Frankly, I believed there was team dysfunction at Clemson when DJU arrived on campus with his reported deals. Dysfunction due to envy, jealosy, bitterness, you name it, that seethed beneath the lines, so to speak. Why in the dingdongdillywhopper would you NOT expect 18 and 19-year-olds to be fuming over a teammate's "special con$$$$iderations" thereby allowing him to look as if he stepped off the pages of GQ or out of an exotic car dealership or out of an "Only for a Megastar" hair salon?

And where does that take us? Right back to my belief that both this NIL and new transfer rule business were no less than creations by Satan himself to disrupt, debase, demean and defeat college football. And every freaking one of us, right from the schools on down through the fan bases are guilty as Saturday night drunken whoremongerers for allowing it to happen!
