I'm awake and refreshed an hour earlier than usual, giving me time to read the apocalyptic musings of what can be only described as the horde of little Finebaums who invariably spring out of the shrubs every time the Tigers stub their toes.
Judge Keller fired off a final salvo before going to bed, saying the coaching staff is the problem, while intimating that Dabo Swinney may not need to go, but, it's hard to see how he can stay.
Then the pitchfork-and-torch NIL/portal crowd is on its soapbox, reminding us all how right they are, and how wrong the program has gone.
It's all such a tired take, as if firing Swinney and adopting the Norvell method of program building are the answers.
Yes, Clemson got throttled last night. There's no disputing it. They performed like a half-inflated bicycle tire in every phase of the game.
But it's one game. It's not all the games. An ACC title is still on the table, and with it a playoff berth.
If they skid into the finish, lose to the cacks, miss the ACCCG and the playoffs, I'd be willing to admit that they built me up, buttercup, just to let me down in the end.
But I won't join in with those whose response to adversity is to start chucking verbal water bottles at Swinney's head from the comfort of their seats in the stands.
Go Tigers. On to the next one.

Good argument against the ACC having an automatic bid. If there’s a reasonable scenario where this CU team makes the playoffs, then the system is badly broken. I can’t see how they stay top 20 much less top 12.

Or you'd sound like you knew how to predict based on what you saw on the field last night. Cade regression. Offensive ineptitude. Defense not tough. Bad coaching.
So predicting another loss or smu winning out and missing accg is quite likely.
Missing playoffs is very likely. 95%.

We have beaten NOBODY this year. Only NCSU has more wins than losses. Only Citadel is a lock. At VT and Pitt? Based on last night? 30% chance to win both. The birds throttle us if we show up with last night's gem of preparation and excrement of adjustments. We are a mid 2000s Tommy Bowden team. 3-5 losses and a Shreveport or Mobile bowl game.

No reality is our run was over four years ago, we now paying A coach $11 million to make his friends and family rich, and take the team to a middling bowl every year. That’s reality. Dabo stubborn refusal to use the portal is nothing more than ego and hubris. He’s being paid to win games and he’s not doing that right now. We are outmanned on the lines of scrimmage, it’s very clear

I’m not disputing what Dabo did in the past. I’m talking about what’s happening right now. If he doesn’t want to coach anymore, then stop taking the money and step aside. As long as he’s accepting $11 million a year to coach the team, he needs to be putting a quality product on the field. Good coaches don’t get their brains beat in by unranked ACC opponents at home, at night. They just don’t.

For Christ sakes, that was Louisville not Ohio State. As others are saying, he chooses not to use the portal for a single player, or openly talk about NIL to recruits all while making a 11 million a year for a non playoff program. Recruiting is sliding and we lack depth, sorry if you refuse to see it but that’s your choice. Don’t complain about others who do.

With a program that Dabs has built on “character “ and no real NIL money to make a difference, how much longer will these types of players be “all in” for the experience and not for the money. The dream seems to be slipping away

Maybe Clemson doesn't have Texas NIL money or Ohio State NIL money, for example. But I think Clemson has a good war chest. But who can say? Until NIL is brought into the light, no one will really know who has what.
In which case, why panic about what's happening? If Clemson is to be relegated to have not status in P4 football, then let it come. I can think of no one more capable of navigating that than Dabo Swinney.

We have always had more or been willing to use more than South Carolina. That is a fact. I can list the cost of buildings and coaches salaries as an example. With that being said THEY are currently out playing us. THEY are currently out recruiting us both in the portal and in incoming talent. All on what can only be less of a budget. Let’s remember the sec contract hasn’t kicked in yet. Nor can that money be used for NIL but somehow they are beating us in talent acquisition.

Beamer can recruit. If the birds are already getting this level of recruiting with not much to sell in terms of program success under Beamer, Imagine what they’ll do if they can turn the corner on the field. And don’t kid yourself, SC has been making up ground in NIL resources (though they’re still middle of the pack in the SEC at best).

And I do believe they are also winning recruits that they may not have won in years' past under Beamer's leadership.
But neither of those things ensure they have the makings of a program that can compete in the SEC year-in, year-out.

Everything is still technically on the table. However, I can’t imagine a path to beating even Virginia Tech next week. They have some speed running the ball and we will more than likely get gashed on the ground again. Dabo will have to let the offense actually try to make big plays for there to be a difference

Dabo has earned the right to try and correct things for as long as he wishes to try. That does not mean that I have a lot of confidence that he will get the job done. I think that we have the talent to compete, but I have no answers for the problem. I just know that we used to play our best in big games. Now, we are doing good just to find the field.

I was awake too, but not because we lost, but because how we played and how we were coached. I'm all in with Dabo, and think it is ridiculous to take about replacing him, but also I am not afraid to speak up when something is wrong. The performance last night was just inexcusable and to call it a toe stub is pretty darn blind. I guarantee you Dabo won't look at it like a toe stub and probably doesn't expect us to either.

No one is advocating the "Norvell model".
However, if we have a bunch of guys hit the portal like FSU did last year, we could get forced into doing just that, as Norvell was.

Sadly its gonna be folks sitting things out going forward. No panic, just not buying tix to games to see crap efforts and tigers losing bowls to mid teams. Money talks way more than Tyler from Spartanburg.

If they lose to the hokies or the panthers, the Citadel game will feature plenty of open seating.

We had our butts handed to us by an unranked team, at home, with two weeks to prepare.
The time to panic will be from the Dabo cultists after the Pitt game if there's a repeat.
Ditto for the Hokies and SC.

They lost a game last night.

They'd won six games in a row before then.
If those numbers were reversed, yes, I could understand the temptation to get the drizzles.

Clemson is 0-2 against teams with a pulse.

3 other teams has beaten Louisville, yet we couldn't be competitive with them.
We are lucky we've played 6 teams that didn't have a pulse.

I keep seeing this "teams with a pulse". Can anyone help define what that means other than a catchy phrase to group the 2 teams we've lost to???
Lets look at the opponents like this, which is their record outside of playing us since you logically shouldn't "penalize" us for beating teams at the same "rewarding" teams when they beat us
UGA = 6-1 App state = 4-3 NCST = 5-3 Stanford = 2-6 FSU = 1-7 Wake = 4-3 UVA = 4-3 Louisville = 5-3
Objectively that tells me we are 2-0 against teams with a losing record and 4-2 against teams with a winning record
So how does one put some sort of definition around what "pulse" means? Even if we remove the extremes of UGA and App State what do you use to differentiate L'ville, Wake and UVA?

Self defined "with a pulse".
All mediocre except UGA. That includes Louisville.
Since then, we beat VA Tech, 4-3 at the time.
We need to win out to have any chance at the playoffs.

Totally agree. I do feel pretty hurt today after this one - feels a lot like the Duke L.
The duke L was an indication of the season. I hope this is just a blip and not a turn for the Tigers.

Neither Miami nor SMU are going to lose 2 ACC games....ain't happening so the ACC/playoffs are off the table.

If Clemson wins its remaining two ACC games,

and Miami and SMU lose one of theirs, what happens in the three-way tie that is created, given there is no head-to-head result to refer to?
Or even a two-way tie if one of them loses just one game? How does that get decided?

with a playoff berth.
Although I will say that Francis Marion's take on the importance of the App State win must not be overlooked.
