Looking at you employers. The long hours ...the crazy schedules....the subpar pay....all that is contributing to the distancing and the kind of wedge that is not allowing parents to truly and thoroughly engage in their kid's lives like they need to be. ....... like it used to be.
Condolences to those families.

Employers are to blame? How much did this guys mom and dad make annually? Sorry to pick on you but seems like a stretch given we know little about this young man's family

Prayers are pretty useless in reality. If they produced the desired result (no more school shootings), then I’d say double down folks. Maybe all those prayers are hitting the all powerful and omniscient being’s spam folder?

Nobody’s going to do anything about it. Just imagine if it was your kid. just imagine if you’re standing outside the high school waiting to see if your child walked out or was one of the dead. Nothing’s going to happen unless politicians kids are the ones getting shot. This goes for both sides. It makes me sick to my stomach.

The dismantling of the US health care system in the 80's caused incalculable damage.
Combine that with the insane availability and easy access to firearms in the US and this issue will NEVER end.
Prayers are garbage.

But if you choose to, you have lots to choose from right?
And you've never been found mentally disturbed, or have a criminal record, and have had sufficient background checks, and never abused your spouse or had a restraining order and your kids (if you have any) have zero access to them... I'm sure.

Our founders never commented on easy access to guns.
Our founders never commented on 14-year-olds having access to guns.
Our founders never commented on 14-year-olds owning a rifle.
Our founders never commented on mental health.
Our founders never commented on rounds per second.
They left that responsibility to US and so far we have FAILED.
The Second Amendment is:

For a gun to be sold in the US, first you have to go into a licensed gun dealer or gun show. Second you have to basically give your life history on a NICS application for the FBI. Then if the check comes back clean you can purchase the weapon in as little as 45 minutes to an hour. If there is any hiccup in the process then the sale can be delayed for up 60 days or outright denied. Can a person lie on a NICS app sure they can, does the NICS system catch every person who is a threat, well we see the answer to that every time we have cases like this. No system is gonna be perfect because the human element comes into play and in times of stress any human can become irrational. I have sold guns on and off for years and have my FFL license, I have sold guns to people I would rather not have had a weapon but had no justifiable reason to withhold the sale, and I have denied sales because the person came to me with alcohol on their breath or in an agitated state. Only once, that I know of, have I had any weapon that I had sold been used in anger and that was weeks after it was bought and the that was a suicide. A 21 year old decided that a temporary problem with a girlfriend need a permanent solution. It was very sad and both families suffered tremendously, but again you can't eliminate every scenario when the human mind is in play.

I have 3 safes with every slot filled. I have multiple handgun lock boxes. But I have some in different rooms in my house for personal protection. A weapon is useless if you can't get to it in a time of need. To ask people to keep all their guns locked up tight and out of sight is ridiculous at best and totally untenable at worst. I was trained by the US military on top of being a southern country boy who often had to hunt for our family to have a consistent supply protein growing up. Not a single one of my guns have ever been fired in anger or gotten mad at me for their lack of use.

I am a big believer in the 2nd amendment, but if I were this kid's parent, the guns (and probably knives) would have been removed from the house a year ago. Plenty of blame to go around, but looking at the bigger picture, our society no longer has the moral clarity to hold people to a standard of behavior that produces a voluntarily law abiding society. It's just not being taught. All things tend to chaos, as the old thermodynamics saying goes. Law of entropy and all that. Society has to put in the work or it will fall apart. Just my little two cent rant for the morning...

much higher violent crime and murder rate throughout the country.
It's just that school shootings and mass shootings in general somehow became the "in style" outlet of violence for sickos to do starting with Columbine. There's a ton of factors of why this became the case.

Really just what law would you change and how would you implement it without infringing on the rights of lawful gun owners? There is thousands of laws on the books but they are the answer, until we can somehow learn what every person is thinking 24/7 no one will stop stuff like this from happening. Taking guns from good people won't get the guns away from bad people, to force all honest people to completely lock away all their weapons just makes them sitting ducks.
But tell me which laws you could change or write that would solve this? I will get some popcorn and a diet Dr Pepper and wait.

That’s quite an ignorant statement. Like with anything, there are responsible ones and unfortunately irresponsible ones. I don’t have any desire to blow things up but you can bet I’d protect my family if the situation called for it.
There were more alcohol related deaths in Georgia than gun related (which includes suicide) last year. How do you feel about abortion? And don’t regurgitate the same incest and medical reason because that is a small percentage of actual abortion rates.
But back to your gun rant; I propose we start by making it illegal for known criminals to possess guns and make murder illegal.

Thoughts and prayers are pointless. Stop posted weak snowflake BS about thoughts and prayers. Have the guts to annunciate the problems and potential solutions.
A 14 year old should not be able to possess an AR rifle.
A guy can’t buy a case of beer until he’s 21 but he can walk into a store and buy an AR15 when he’s 18 years old? What could go wrong?
https://giffords.org/lawcenter/state-laws/minimum-age-to-purchase-possess-in-georgia/

See 2nd category ….. “Firearms, type not stated”.
If your loved one was killed in an incident in this category, you’re not too worried about whether it was a handgun or a long gun. So Does your cute little chart suggest that we should ban ALL guns and do away with the second amendment? Of course not.
But the category hands and feet that you reference is statistically insignificant.
This is a useless chart. It tells us a lot of people get killed by guns.

strength for believers. I testified before the SC House Judiciary Committee two years ago in opposition to the permit less carry gun bill, which lowered the minimum age to 18 and removed the requirement for training. It did allow for the establishment of voluntary training centers in each county which is estimated to cost taxpayers $3 million. There were 30 speakers. The 27 opponents to the bill included law enforcement personnel, doctors, the former director of SLED, and psychologists. The result? The committee passed the bill 5 minutes later with an NRA lobbyist in the room. I share you frustration.

The NRA has turned out to be a bunch of corrupt American scumbags.
But please don’t tell me that thoughts and prayers are strength for believers. I do not look to politicians for strength or beliefs. Never will.
Another school shooting and we have politicians on the right saying you have my thoughts and prayers. And we have politicians in the left saying let’s keep the second amendment, but let’s implement some sensible laws surrounding the purchase and possession of guns.

An AR-15 can fire 45 rounds per minute. Modified with a bump stock, it can fire 400 rounds per minute or more.
Anyone out there on TigerNet have a use for something that shoots 45 rounds in one minute. Or 400 rounds in one minute?

The inanimate item is not the problem. I don’t understand why so many folks don’t realize that. Look, if our overlords in DC wanted to solve this problem, they can & would. We don’t have this issue at the county courthouse or at the local Bank of America branch or at DV. They don’t solve it because it keeps us divided. The victims are a means to an end. American schools should have security.

people than others. You wouldn't want criminals running around with nuclear bombs would you? But "oh its not the nuclear bombs fault, it's the crazy people with the nuclear bombs?" Right?
The same principle applies here. Just theoretically, imagine that nobody had handguns or assault rifles, but could still own shotguns and hunting rifles. Can those still kill people? Absolutely! But they are far less efficient at it. They're big, bulky, hold less ammo, slower to reload, etc. Handguns and assault rifles are designed to kill people, and they are very d*mn good at doing just that.
So is removing handguns and assault rifles from our society a pipe dream? Yeah probably. But don't tell me the type of weapon people are using doesn't make any difference. It absolutely does.
